Disable Touch Pad on HP Laptop running Windows 10.

I can no longer disable Touchpad (Synaptics SMBus Touchpad) on HP laptop with windows 10. Typical Disabling Driver options through Device control panel are not available. Disable driver options are grayed out. Are there other ways to disable the touch pad? Key strokes shortcuts, etc.?

Latest updates installed. Tried to uninstall touchpad but it just reinstalles automatically upon restart.

    Time Lady,

       I appreciate your helping me with this. Here is some background and what I did to follow your instructions you sent me.

       My HP laptop is just over 2 years old and I initially disabled the touch pad function. About 4 months ago it became active again and eventually I was able to disable it again in settings. About 2 months later, November-ish, it became active again and sensitivity has been erratic and annoying. Sensitivity settings don't work either.

       As suggested, I downloaded the WinZip Driver Update app, wzdu53, which identified 12 drives needing updating. Synaptics Touch Pad was one of them. I downloaded all 12 and re-started the laptop. Unfortunately nothing changed. 

       Your last reply: 

    The download is an app but drivers to update the synaptics device.

    You then check under settings>devices>touchpad for the new settings.

    It sounds like yo haven’t done this.

    Have you tried the setting in the 'Touchpad' tab by clicking Settings > Devices > Touchpad, Additional settings? (Or maybe available in Settings > Devices > Mouse, Additional Mouseoptions?)

    Then put a checkmark in the box with 'Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached' in the 'Touchpad' tab and click Apply, OK.

    (And if you meant that the Touchpad can be really disabled always by pressing the Disable button.)

    Thanks for replying. Yes I have tried all those steps numerous times.

    My TouchPad setting doesn't look like what you show.

    When I click on Additional Settings I get the mouse properties

    I believe I have done that. I downloaded all 12 apps that the website showed as needing updating. Still after restarting, nothing changed. Am I missing something?
