2020-02 Updates KB4524244 Locks Up My Computer and Fails Install

I received the Patch Tuesday releases today.  KB4532693, KB4537759 and KB4538674 dropped in the first wave and all installed successfully.  On a subsequent "Check for Updates"  KB4524244 downloaded and installed but on the reboot, it rebooted the first time but froze hard on the second re-boot with Step 2 information and a frozen spinner on my screen, no keyboard or any access.  After about 15 mins I finally forced the system down.  On the reboot, my Secure Boot flagged me that the keys were corrupted.  I was able to get those repaired and reboot into the system.  I rebooted a couple more times but no updates attempted to install.  On a third "Check for updates, the same (KB4524244) update attempted to download but freezes the system at 94% on the download.  Again freezes hard requiring a hard re-set.  I tried flushing the Software Distribution cache but get the same results.

FYI:  I am running Windows defender with VBS (Credential Guard and Hypervisor enforced Code Integrity on an HP EliteDesk 705 G4 MT with a AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2400G with Radeon Vega Graphics.  I also have a similar set up running on an HP laptop (Intel i5), but the update installed fine on it.

Well,  that was one of the first things I tried last Tuesday, it came back and said it could not find any solutions.......

I think I have fully recovered from the initial problems it caused and had blocked the update.  Now that there is no danger of it coming down again, case closed for me.

Playing on PC here. And have a similar issue to some people here although i can never even get windows to boot up after the update. This just started happening this morning. Instead of going to the sign in page it tries to auto repair then fails, puts me on a blue screen with the options : Continue, troubleshooting, and turn off pc. I have an hp omen desktop with nvidia 2070 super and an intel i7-9700k core processor. Windows doesnt even load and sends me straight to the blue screen mentioned above.

I don't think you are having the same issue since you don't have an AMD processor & you haven't heard from HP Sure Start Recovery. Too bad the MSFT article doesn't quite confirm that is the case, though. It doesn't mention anything beyond "a sub-set of devices" for the ones being affected & it doesn't mention what the effect is beyond "an issue". Anyway...

    (1) "Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair" is worth a try.

Some say try it up to 3 times.

Otherwise, check what you can do in Safe Mode...

    (2) "Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart".

After the restart, enter the number left of Safe Mode with Networking.

Some say just entering Safe Mode & rebooting to Normal Mode is a cure.

    (3) Type "Control Panel" into the Search bar or into a "right-click START, Run" box.

I think the START button will not work in Safe Mode, but a right-click on it should work.

In the Control Panel, I wanted to say to try Windows Update, but I can't find it. So...

    (4) With the Control Panel set at "Category" (top, right)...

    (a) Click "Uninstall a Program" at the bottom.

    (b) Click "View Installed Updates" at top. left.

Four came in for me, including KB4524244. Only the bottom one (KB4538674) will not uninstall. It could be any of the top three causing your problem. You may select them & look higher up for an Uninstall button. Or right-click, uninstall.

When trying to go into safe mode,it sends me back to the blue screen after being at a black screen. Now a 4th choice is added: “use a device”.
