2020-02 Updates KB4524244 Locks Up My Computer and Fails Install

I received the Patch Tuesday releases today.  KB4532693, KB4537759 and KB4538674 dropped in the first wave and all installed successfully.  On a subsequent "Check for Updates"  KB4524244 downloaded and installed but on the reboot, it rebooted the first time but froze hard on the second re-boot with Step 2 information and a frozen spinner on my screen, no keyboard or any access.  After about 15 mins I finally forced the system down.  On the reboot, my Secure Boot flagged me that the keys were corrupted.  I was able to get those repaired and reboot into the system.  I rebooted a couple more times but no updates attempted to install.  On a third "Check for updates, the same (KB4524244) update attempted to download but freezes the system at 94% on the download.  Again freezes hard requiring a hard re-set.  I tried flushing the Software Distribution cache but get the same results.

FYI:  I am running Windows defender with VBS (Credential Guard and Hypervisor enforced Code Integrity on an HP EliteDesk 705 G4 MT with a AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2400G with Radeon Vega Graphics.  I also have a similar set up running on an HP laptop (Intel i5), but the update installed fine on it.

    I am going through a lot concerning my computer and this new update on Windows 10. I tried uninstalling the update from the blue screen and now the computer goes from off to booting to a green screen than back off again. I can't even get back to the blue screen anymore. What is going on and why do we need to continue updating when things are fine? May you please help thank you

    actually it very obvious the patches have problem..i begging for microsofr please stop this monthly patches okay..dont make us in a dark once a month..we tired of this.

    Its like global..today a lots of my comp laptop from dell unable to boot up because windows updates..I think it is time microsoft only release patch for once a year..if not people will feddup with this micrrosoft and will go to alternative..vsry upset with new boss lack of conceen and thonk aboit money now..i love the way bill gate handle microosft on old days.

    The problem isn't with Windows 10.  It is in the HP BIOS software.

    HP released some new BIOS firmware for AMD machines at the end of March 2020, which you can download for your specific machines (laptops and desktops) from HP's website. 

    To resolve the issue:

    1. Go to HP's website, select the Support Menu, then select Software and Drivers.  You will be asked to enter the serial number of your computer which is found at the bottom of laptops or back of desktops, and usually preceeded by "S/N" or "SN".  Alternatively, you can download HP's software that will detect your computer's serial number from the same page.
    2. Next, you will be taken to all of the software and drivers that are specific to your computer based on its serial number.  Expand the BIOS section, then download and install the BIOS firmware update.
    3. After this is completed, you will then be able to install the Windows 10 Updates without experiencing freezing or the unauthorised change to Secure Boot Keys.

    The process should be similar for other brands of computers, but it's up to the manufacturers to release the firmware updates.

    Well based on all the quick responses sounds like I am not alone.

    Just one note....I also tried to turn off Sure Start after the first attempt and try it again.  I never got to the try it again part as my computer never boots in legacy mode, it freezes up and once I turned Sure Start back on it went through some harrowing, fingers crossed OS recovery routines but it is successfully back and running now.  This is a fairly fresh image (2 months or less) so I am not thinking I have a collection of problems festering.

    As I mentioned in the original post, I have made a ton of BIOS tweaks and running virtualization based security with Credential guard along with Hypervisor enforced Code Integrity.  I don't want to unwind all of that and set the BIOS to defaults to have to go through all of that again, just to see if I can get it to install.

    For me I think it best to wait this out and see if it gets resolved upstream.  I am blocking the update.  I would caution anyone reading this about trying to turn off Sure Start and trying if you have already failed the initial install, unless maybe all you have dabbled with in the BIOS settings is turning  Sure Start on and off.
