HAD WINDOWS 10 FOR 3 YEARS SAME PC. NO PROBLEMS THEN LAST 6 WEEKS BOTTOM LEFT HAD SCREEN I HAVE MESSAGE ACTIVATE WINDOWS GO TO SETTINGS TO ACTIVATE WINDOWS. I FINALLY WORKED OUT HOW TO DO THIS BUT GOT ERROR 0X80070002 TRY LATER.
I ALSO HAVE NO SOUND. AND SOME SITES HAVE TROUBLE WITH. LIKE WOOLWORTHS, I PUT THINGS IN SHOPPING CART LIKE 1 WATERMELON THEN 1 TEABAGS THEN THE 1 WATERMELON DISAPPEARS FROM CART. THEN WHEN TRY ON LOGIN IT ASKS OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN FOR PASSWORD AND EMAIL ADDRESS. THESE 2 PROBLEMS ALSO STARTED 6 WEEKS AGO.
I USE SEARCH ENGINE FIREFOX AND HAVE DONE FOR LONG TIME.

Okay to get old files back if lost go to local disk C, then click on user, then your name and you will find 2 important files-Windows.old and Windows.old.000
Click onto Windows.old.000 and your files will be there. If not try Windows.old
I found this out when trying to download something and I saw those precious files!
Okay so far things seem to be working BUT I am back to square one where when ever I put a USB into the drive I get message this drive is faulty. I click on repair drive. I get message drive could not be repaired.
Now to fix other problems I clicked on this link
Download: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209 I downloaded it to USB.
Make sure you copy all your files first! Then turn computer off. Put USB with copied link download into USB. Turn PC on.
Click F12, you will see a blue and white box where it asks you to select which boot device you want to use. Use the arrows and go down one to VEFI: Vendor coproduct code, partition 1.
Then you will be asked where do you want to install windows. You are shown 4 drives. Mine PC went straight to Drive 0 Partition 4 Primary. When I tried one of the other 3 it would not allow me to do it to any of them.
Now the problem I had is it says all folders/files from previous Windows will be moved to WINDOWS.OLD. where I can access them but not use previous version of Windows. Then it copied files.
Then installing Windows, copying Windows files, getting files ready for installation, installing features, installing updates, finishing up, then PC restarts, this takes 20-40 minutes, white dots making a moving circle.
Then Getting devices ready, getting services ready, then just a moment.
Then this CORTANA says hello. She explains what is going to happen. She asks questions and you answer either by voice or keyboard.
Like Backup on onedrive, Office 365 yes or no, Digital assistant yes or no, Privacy settings password or PIN.
Getting PC ready. It will ask you to sign into or make a Microsoft account. PC will then restart. Press F12 click onto Windows Boot Manager and Enter. Remove USB from drive. Then do Windows as you want. Country, language, PC background to name some.
I am hoping this is easy to understand. I did NOT separate with paragraphs as wasn't sure how much/long a post could be. This is for Windows 10 and hoping it can help others.
For now apart from faulty USB drive on my PC(can anyone help?) my PC (touching wood) is working OK. Thank-you to lacrumb and MarcTec13 for all their help and patience! You will NEVER know how much it means to me as my PC is my link to the outside world! Thank-you!
You never mentioned that you were using the same USB stick.
I have 3-5 USB's I copied my files to 2 of them but for some reason the files have disappeared on both of them. Will keep trying.
Why it is gone on green one is unknown to me. I used the red one for Windows.
When you put Windows 10 on the USB stick it probably reformatted the stick and everything that was on it was wiped out.

I did what you said and did everything PC told me and yet I have lost ALL my old files. Even though I was told I would be able to find them in windows.old.
I had even saved them on USB but they disappeared when I put Windows on same USB.
Pictures of my late parents, other photos. 5 years of my life gone! Is there someway I can find them? Please I am begging anyone who has suggestions.
Whether reloading windows has solved problems will let you know later tonight. I must say Microsoft want to know everything. History, passwords, sites I go too to name some. Has me very concerned!
