Cumulative Updates - February 27, 2020 - KB4535996 Optional

I see that KB4524244 was installed on my laptop on 2/14/2020.

In doing a search on this KB, it appears to be the cause of many problems & supposedly been permanently pulled by Microsoft.

According to this article, KB4524244 causes freezes, crashes, boot failures, BSOD, deleted Desktop files, & many other issues many have experienced in this thread on KB4535996.

Another thing noted in this article:

"Proactive users can also download the Windows Update troubleshooter, which will allow you to hide problematic updates and prevent them from reinstalling. As things stand, it is fast becoming essential software for all Windows 10 users."

"Microsoft says it is “working on an improved version of this update” but in the meantime, it recommends affected users remove KB4524244..." (see steps in the article)

Interestingly, some moderators in this community are having difficulty realizing what happened with the KB4535996 update and how they defend Microsoft with a sword, when even from here the same company can take advantage of solving problems.

They insist on perpetually suggesting the clean boot procedure and whatever, that nothing can if the KB has determined the problem.

I also noticed a certain lack of respect towards those who studied the problem after a third party no longer worked, for example: after years that this app as a Sign Tool worked without problems and after KB4535996 no longer.

I was accused of generating panic when I limited myself to giving information.

Some community moderators should live the world outside of Microsoft, it would do them good.

Then you have uninstall the update.

There's a way to get to the recovery screen from inside Win10, and I think it's from the Update screen in Settings, but you can also get there by powering the machine up and down 3 times from the power switch.

You may also have to roll Windows back to a previous set-point, a recovery point.  You may lose some mail, but it's better than losing everything.

The only way to instill confidence is to be open and honest.  We've seen that the opposite has back-fired for both companies and governments.  Reality doesn't react well to those in charge pretending the facts aren't the facts.

I do not know if KB4524244 is the cause of my problems--I have not found a way to identify what updates are installed or not the way you could in Windows 7.  All I do know is that it was one of the "Application Updates" that caused the Black Screen of Death (not the same as the infamous BSOD).  Since backing those updates out, and turning off updating the computer has been stable again.

The Windows updates must surely fix bugs as well as provide software upgrades. 

My complaint is why the default setting is not for updates to be added when shutting down, rather than when opening the PC or during work; and then only noticeable because the PC suddenly slows down dramatically.
