Looking through the forum I have noticed that many others have had this problem!

Two days ago a popup gave me a warning about space management that was being switched on.

Surprised at this I checked my C:\ drive to see what was going on and it was nearly full. On double clicking my C:\ drive I noticed a strange file entitled UKLog.dat, that was increasing in size as I was watching it.

I ran AVG Antivirus to scan the whole computer, and nothing was found. I also ran Malwarebytes premium checking for Rootkits and again nothing was found.

I then restarted my PC in safe mode and was able to delete it without any ill effects. But directly I restarted in normal mode, it was back eating up space.

I have tried deleting programs to see if I can find the offending program, but as yet no luck.

To add to the mystery,the first time I noticed it, I double clicked the file and PhotoDirector 8 opened up, so I deleted that program thinking that may be the cause. but no I still haven't found where its from.

Please does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi, the UKLog.dat comes from the intel video driver. Change the driver to the Microsoft driver. Then you might erase the file.

    I will try to figure out how to do that. At least now it's just sitting there doing nothing. But thanks for the advice.

    Thank you so much. I had this issue since last week. After opening the task list, I saw two tasks that were running. In short, one was for the sound, and the other for the disk cache. After I disabled the cache process, the disk eating dat file vanished, and everything works as intended.

    Hi Len, 

    This seems to be an issue with windows itself writing a log file continuously. 

    Easy fix is to right-click the file and select properties and change it to "Read Only". 

    This will not allow any software, any process to write anything to this file, therefore stopping it from growing. 

    I Have this issue on my Microsoft SurfaceBook tablet and in less than a day the uklog.dat file just left my C:/ Drive with 0bytes space. 

    After this, you can try to run windows updates after this in case if this issue is already fixed and then try to change the Read/Write privileges again and check if the file kees increasing its size.
