Looking through the forum I have noticed that many others have had this problem!

Two days ago a popup gave me a warning about space management that was being switched on.

Surprised at this I checked my C:\ drive to see what was going on and it was nearly full. On double clicking my C:\ drive I noticed a strange file entitled UKLog.dat, that was increasing in size as I was watching it.

I ran AVG Antivirus to scan the whole computer, and nothing was found. I also ran Malwarebytes premium checking for Rootkits and again nothing was found.

I then restarted my PC in safe mode and was able to delete it without any ill effects. But directly I restarted in normal mode, it was back eating up space.

I have tried deleting programs to see if I can find the offending program, but as yet no luck.

To add to the mystery,the first time I noticed it, I double clicked the file and PhotoDirector 8 opened up, so I deleted that program thinking that may be the cause. but no I still haven't found where its from.

Please does anyone have any suggestions?

    I was able to get rid of this nasty space-hog (UkLog.dat) that was consuming my device by updating my Intel display driver through the Intel website. They have a:

    Intel® Driver & Support Assistant (Intel® DSA)

    found here:

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html

    that will update your Intel drivers. I was working on an EVOO laptop, and windows update installed what it thought was the latest drivers, but when I ran this tool on Intel's website, it found a much more recent version that thankfully didn't include the UkLog.dat. I hate that file and will not soon forget it. I hope this helps someone else.

    To be specific, I was performing a clean isntall of windows, and then ran the windows update.  The very minute that Windows update finished installing the Intel display driver "Intel Corporation - Display 27.20.100.7990" , the UkLog.dat file appeared and started growing.  That is how I knew that for My Evoo laptop, the UkLog.dat file was linked to this Intel Display driver.  I then made the UkLog.dat read-only to prevent growth.  I then rolled back the driver to a generic microsoft driver.  Then I deleted the UkLog.dat file.  After updating the driver with the Intel Driver & Support Assistant, my display driver version is now 27.20.100.8587 , and the UkLog.dat file is gone.

    When I went to Intel's website and used their driver update tool, it fixed my issue with UkLog.dat.  Hope it helps you, too.  I posted in this forum if you want more details.

    Thanks for the info but being a non techy, is it safe to download all the installs this intel is asking for?

    Yes.  Intel is a very reputable company.  It took my computer around 20 minutes to finish the update, but it was worth the wait.  You can safely allow the downloads and permissions and administrator requests from Intel.  As long as the website you go to is intel.com , it should be safe!  I'm not an expert, but it worked for me.
