Windows 10 crashes after installing latest AMD graphics drivers

Hi,

I did a fresh install of windows 10 on my laptop. When I try to install the AMD graphics drivers, windows freezes. After force shutdown and restart, windows freezes on the login screen.

Then, if I boot into safe mode and disable the AMD drivers, then it runs fine. But, enabling the drivers again causes the same issue.

The driver for the integrated graphics works fine.

I ran the dism commands for ScanHealth and RestoreHealth. There was no error.

I ran sfc /scannow. There was no error

Laptop: Lenovo Z51-70

Processor: Intel i5 5200U

Integrated GPU: Intel HD Graphics 5500

GPU: AMD R9 M375

    I have the same issue as the original post.

    I have tried to flash the bios, update the bios with original settings, and do Fresh Windows 10 install with all latest updates. I have also updated the Intel and AMD drivers from manufacturer, my laptop manufacturer’s website and also have tried previous AMD driver versions.

    The Intel driver works fine.

    The AMD driver causes the screen to freeze and go black as soon as you install it. This happens with stand alone driver from Microsoft, doing device manager driver install only and also using the AMD provided driver package.

    Error is “Driver Stuck In Device Thread”, meaning there is an issue with the driver and Windows 10. My machine is now crippled by either AMD or Microsoft. =((

    TRY TO USE SYSTEM RESTORE ON YOUR PC/LAPTOP,THAT WAY YOUR PC GETS TO THE VERSION WHERE IT WORKED NORMAL

    I have had this issue plaguing my PC for months without any real solution.

    What works for me best is to :

    1. install the latest drivers
    2. Open AMD Catalysy and do your settings setup once (like freesync and other small tweaks)
    3. Close AMD Catalyst software and disable it from start-up.
      • The settings will still be in effect without the software

    No crashes ever since.

    NOTE: Updating the drive will re-enable AMD Catalyst software to start with startup.

    I have a Lenovo G510, and I have found the issue and permanently fixed it.

    The culprit is the new Intel Drivers.

    The solution:

    1. Boot into safe mode with Netwrorking.
    2. Uninistall the AMD drivers completely using DDU or AMD Cleanup Utility.
    3. Download the latest Intel Display Drivers from your manufacturer's website.
    4. Install the Intel drivers. During Installation it will show a popup that it already has new Intel Drivers. Please skip that and forcefully install these drivers. Don't restart your system yet.
    5. Download the latest AMD Drivers and Install it.
    6. Restart your system.
    7. No 7th step. Enjoy :D

    Hi, I had the compleatly same issule and here is how I resolved it:

    1. Go to safe mode
    2. Go to device manager
    3. Find your graphic card, in my case it was AMD FirePro 4700 wrongly labeled as AMD Radeon 3800
    4. Righ-click, properties, uninstall device, confirm that you really want to uinstall device
    5. AMD has a driver uninstalling tool on their website, download it and run it
    6. Restart your PC
    7. Give windows some time to install basic drivers (you could stop right here, but the drivers won't be too much effective I imagine so if you want the right drivers continue onward)
    1. Go to your laptop manufactuer website
    2. Find something like support collum on Dell's website (a place where you can find all documentation, drivers and etc...)
    3. Go to drivers and some graphic drivers reqire the installation of integrated graphic drivers first, so find the drivers for your integrated graphic download them and install them (if you don't know what is your integrated and normal graphics, in device manager you can see under graphic (display) adapters both your graphics and with little bit of knowlage or googleing you can quickly determine witch is witch)
    4. Then download and install the normal graphics card drivers
    5. If all went acording to plan and your laptop hasn't froze, you are good to go!
