These folks are very good at problems and resolutions. Read this link, however their suggestions are mostly what you just tried.
This is the OS up date that appears to have caused many issues. You have the same version of windows that I have, but my issues was not failure to install but loss of icons, profile and custom backgrounds, etc.
Uninstall to previous update was my only work around.
I see you have paused updates for 7 days. That is the least amount of days I would halt until something is posted. A gentleman previously posted googling "stopupdates10" and install which stops updates until 2099. Might be a very good idea if you do not hear of any fixes or forget to postpone future updates. I placed an icon on my desktop for stopupdates10 to remind me to remove if I see any corrections.
FYI. I am now doing a full disk/partition backup to a USB disk. Make a bootable USB or CD to aid in recovery. Whatever package you select will offer this. If another update is not recoverable, as some have indicated, I can at least reload a previous disk image.
