IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL - appears to be related to ntkrnlmp.exe

Greetings,

I would be most grateful if someone would be able to help me determine the source of my system instability. First, some context:

I've had BSODs on a particular machine for some time now. I'm not sure exactly when/how they began, but they've been happening an awful lot lately when the system idles, or during use. I can't determine a specific trigger or event that causes them, but it's incredibly disruptive when they do happen, and I'd love to find a cure.

I've run Memtest86, Windows Memory Diagnostics, various HDD diagnostics, etc. and nothing I can find so far points to a hardware failure. I'm running the latest BIOS for my motherboard, although it's happened irrespective of BIOS version. I've tried upgrade-in-places, and clean installs of Windows 10, but all of it is so far to no avail. Most recently, I did a clean install once more, only to find the issue has persisted. I do have one dump file so far that I've shared here. I suspect it's a driver, but I can't figure out what driver it could be on my own. Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)

An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an

interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high.  This is usually

caused by drivers using improper addresses.

If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.

Arguments:

Arg1: ffff89018d47d990, memory referenced

Arg2: 00000000000000ff, IRQL

Arg3: 000000000000000b, bitfield :

    bit 0 : value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation

bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)

Arg4: fffff801326bbf2b, address which referenced memory

An SSD, like most computer devices, can act very unpredictably when overheated. Is it running the latest firmware from its maker?

Add a fan blowing into the case on high onto the motherboard's CPU and GPU areas?

Be sure to update the AMD chipset drivers as there have been issues as of late.

    Probably caused by : WdFilter.sys ( WdFilter+6301 )

Both are Windows components which means something else drove them into Fault.

    Further analysis did not help.

Carefully review ALL the methods we have discussed.

Try reducing the system down to as simple as possible including minimum memory.

    Still looks like hardware.

Are you sure nothing is over-clocked???

Have you checked with MSI Support and Forums as well as all of the other device makers?

    Unit still under warranty?

    Hello Rob,

I hope you have been keeping safe and well! Sorry for the radio silence — in addition to having everyday life pick up in busyness, I've still been struggling with the occasional stability issue since we last spoke, and I've been trying to think of what could be the culprit now (or all along).

I have two new Minidumps which may provide more insight. Would you be able to take a quick look at them? I continue to be very grateful for your assistance. The link is below. They were StopCodes PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA AND CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (again).

    https://send.firefox.com/download/a37276c3fe949474/#tGf56uIKD49sQ7FhEEBeFg

I've really been giving a lot of thought to what you observed and mentioned on 4/8 (EF Bugheck) having to do with a hardware issue related to heat. I'm starting to wonder if the SSD could be overheating, and causing this issue. I plan on contacting the manufacturer tomorrow to determine if something could be wrong with the SSD, or if this is just normal behavior for when the NVME SSD gets too hot (I'd welcome your thoughts on that, as well).

I really appreciate your help, and hope that the end of these issues will be in sight soon. Besides the SSD and GPU, I don't have anything else connected to the mobo (besides the CPU, of course), so I'm wondering if it's possible it was this all along.

Thanks, Rob! Take care and be safe.

    Best,

    Tony

Thanks, Rob. Will do. I disabled it yesterday and have been running with it ever since.

Thanks for your help! I'll keep you in the loop.

    Best,

Well, as I said DV can cause instability when there would otherwise be none. So disable it and let's see how it goes.

That EF BugCheck can indicate a serious hardware issue which may be related to heat or loose cards or cables.
