Error 0x800f0922 for 2020-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems (KB4532695)

Hi

This computer has only one HD, it is an old Toshiba laptop that I set up for my wife.

Must have come with Win7 or such but I installed Win 10 about 10 months ago. No worries.

Windows Update fails with Security Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 KB4535680 - Error 0x800f0922

A search got me to this thread. I have followed everyone's saga - fascinating!!

Seems the problem might be 2 EFI System Partitions? One had the right GUID the other not (can't remember which one before I set it "right").

Any step by step suggestions how I can clean it up? Curious to know how it might be fixed. Worst comes to worst I'll reinstall Windows :-(.

tcoury, I'm really unsure what to make of what I see. It looks like yours once was a UEFI install, but it has changed to a Legacy install...

(a) There is a 16 MB unallocated space that might once have been an MSR (Microsoft Reserved) partition belonging to UEFI. I'm thinking maybe the partition style was changed from GPT (for UEFI) to MBR (for Legacy) & the space became unallocated.

(b) Partition 2 has a partition type that belongs to Legacy yet its label is ESP -- EFI System Partition. In a Legacy install, that partition normally is labelled "System Reserved", & I think it would be NTFS. FAT32 is for EFI. But I don't think yours is being used anyway because it isn't Active. Your Windows (C:) partition is the Active one., meaning it doubles as the System partition & has the boot files.

(c) I don't know what that 16 KB partition is (in DiskPart), maybe it has to do with BitLocker or some 3rd-party app. Normally, they would write into the System Reserved partition.

If it were me, I'd want to do a clean install & make it a UEFI install. That will get all the partitions right. Want instructions? What you've got now looks like a high speed collision between a UEFI & a Legacy install, but the Legacy was travelling faster,

Your problem must lie elsewhere. Do you have another drive connected that has another EFI? Multiple EFI  partitions (or even System Reserved partitions) could cause confusion when Windows reboots, especially a reboot during an update.

I tried it but it is not working and it consuming my internet speed. is there any other way to fix this issue?

Here is the information from DiskPart.  I don't know if it matters or not, but the type for the system partition is listed as primary instead of system under the partition list.

When you look at it in Disk Management, the drive (F:) lists both primary and system.
