Windows 10 1909 File Explorer Search issue

Now that this bug has been solved (it only took MS almost 3 months to solve), my question is: Why a unified search? what is the advantage and why complicate straightforward and simple things?

In my humble opinion, File Explorer - as the name 'used' to suggest - is for local files and folders while Internet Explorer was for internet-related searches; Simple, straightforward and easy... No salad, no mess and no confusion.

The only explanation for this useless integration is to gain points for "Bing", which people either hate or simply don't use.

Anyone still battling this "demon" LOL (like me) ...try this freeware called "Everything" (no ads, no spy, no bloat...). Unbelievable and blows anything Microsoft ever wrote away. I don't even BLINK at MS search tools any more - who needs the aggravation.

Just installed it.  Man what a simple yet amazingly superior alternative to the mess that Microsoft created.  I've just scanned my local drives and added my NAS drives and all searches are IMMEDIATE.  Man this rocks!

HAHA! Excellent, YW. Just wait till you drill down into the app's flexibility / power. Fully active Windows context menu, WITH DRAG AND DROP capabilities. Target folder context menu option to "Search Everything" (active by default) in File Explorer. Revolutionized the way I use my PC. Incredible.

As one of the OPs on this problem, I can confirm that MS solution is too little too late, as due to this problem, I investigated how badly indexing is implemented by MS and I too found "Everything".

Everything is quite simply the best EVER file searching tool for Windows.

My 20 million files are indexed in a small database updated in real time and searching takes 0 seconds after things are indexed.

I will be donating and honestly, MS should publicly apologize for this prio 1 fault and how they kept it unfixed for MONTHS.

Totally with you on this.  The old way was far superior.  I don't need or want a unified search.  If MS wants to provide that, make it part of the Start menu.  The search in File Explorer should only search files in that folder + sub-folders.  They decided to 'make it better' (translation: to unnecessarily complicate it), not to mention that it didn't work properly, causing people to move to a non-Microsoft solution (which turns out is way better).
