mat-debug-xxxx.log files

Why are these files appearing in quantity (every 15 minutes), while running Windows 10 home, in my /apps/local/temp folder? They did not appear before the last 3 days ago.

    I would still like to find out what application generates "mat-debug-xxxxxx.log" files, however.

    Me too! And also to find out how to make sure it doesn't happen again.

    It seems to be part of "office"  --- if you scan this thread you will find the the name of the process  that is generated the mat-debug files

    Except that I don't have MS office (and never have had) on this machine. Nor "localbridge" as far as I know.

    This is an app called "Office hub" that gets shoved without permission on us with every update, even after Microsoft has stated that this is "fixed" and that uninstalled apps do not get re-installed on updates. Like, 3 years ago.

    The "Office Hub" comes with an executable in it called LocalBridge.

    Easy: Uninstall Office Hub.

    Medium: Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub | Remove-AppxPackage

    Hard:

    There is a folder called C:\Program Files\WindowsApps.

    It is protected. Nuke the protection (take ownership)

    In it there are several folders of the form "Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub_18.1910.1283.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe _etc"

    There are versions for various platforms and languages AFAICT.

    Take ownership, add permissions and delete the folders.

    Apparently, removing the app will not free the folders and the local bridge hangs around. No idea if it keep running or making logs if simply removed.

    I have gotten the habit of rummaging in there repeatedly because Microsoft Store seems unable to do a reinstall - it keep stuff in there and some apps just crash or hang on update until you delete and install fresh.

    Do try to be careful.

    That sounds a good idea. I looked at the installed programs and there's one called "Office" (not "Office Hub") and I've removed it. Let's see what happens.

    The msconfig trick didn't work - I found a load of mat files today.
