Error 0X800701B1 - how to fix it?

Having problem with external hdd drive and after scanned and fixed, problem keeps appearing. Furthermore another error message when transferring files Error 0X800701B1. Kindly advise how to fix it.

    Tried two methods, one failed, the other is still under test.

    [Method 1 - no improvement]

    Goto Control Panel-Hardware-Device Manager-Disk Drives, goto Policies tab and turn off Write-caching. After some hours coping lots of files, the disk becomes bad device in WIndows. Disk is good. Just not usable by Windows. Need cold-boot or restart.

    [Method 2 - still under testing]

    Open PC enclosure. Unplug all SATA cables from Marvell ports, and plug those to SATA ports of ASMedia or Intel chips. Windows Write cache should all be on now. Verify it under Control Panel (as above). So far so good. Give it a spin and see if it can work.

    After overnight test of removing SATA links to Marvell chip, the system behaves fine even with write caching on. I'm satisfied for now. Good or bad, will follow up later.

    Some background:

    • System works fine for at least 3 years beforehand.
    • 3 SATA chip kinds are on my motherboard - Intel, ASMedia, Marvell. Only disks on Marvell have issue.
    • Issue happens when heavy disk access such as Outlook access or copying large files.
    • Write cache on or off doesn't matter.
    • Disk directory is still visible after problem happens. Accessing the direstory or file when crash happens will generate the Error 0x800701B1.
    • File under moving (not copying) when issue happens may "disappear" and "reappear" a little while later. That means it's stuck in OS cache buffer.

    Some hypothesis:

    • Issue seems to be from disk software driver (recent?) interaction with disk controller chip.
    • Marvell chip may not like certain SATA command sequence.

    Two days test passed. No more Error 0x800701B1 issue.I consider it fixed. Current Win10 is incompatible with Marvell disk controller chip. Previous Win10 state (dated Feb 2021 or before) is fine.

    No issue after 3 more days of normal usage. I can use SATA analyzer to see where the issue is later. For now, from what I can tell, the problem seems to be faulty drive power management command during heavy loading. Can't know until digging into command sequence.
