Hi,

Since I updated Windows 10 a few days ago my computer won't boot. It displays the Lenovo logo screen, but doesn't go any further. It doesn't load any Windows screen for me to attempt recovery environment.

I don't know how to recover it. Can you help?

Thanks

I spent the whole weekend dealing with a Lenovo stuck in the Lenovo black/white logo after Windows Update.

This will not fix every system reported here but may solve the issue for older Lenovo systems

    Short version:

Enter BIOS setup and disable 'Lenovo Service Engine' under security.

    Reboot

    Delete C:\windows\system32\LSEDT.exe

    Delete C:\windows\system32\LSEPreDownloader.exe

    Reboot

    Long version:

Lenovo used to have a feature called 'Lenovo Service Engine' which was basically spyware (rootkit) that reported information about the machine and had the ability to install software that cannot be uninstalled.

To make things worse, the feature had a vulnerabilitythat other malware can exploit.

This feature was since pulled by Lenovo when the 'feature' was exposed.

Lenovo has thisKB article on how to disable the feature (basically the steps outlined above).

    Good morning Lumen,

I had to start from scratch because even a WINDOWS bootable USB couldn't work... Fortunately enough I created a RECOVERY bootable USB which gave me an option of using CMD to copy my personal data into an external hard drive, I only lost installed programs.....

A recovery disk/USB have several options that can help...

    Options:

    • System restore (if you've created restore points before)
    • System image recovery
    • Command prompt (CMD)
    • Startup repair  etc...

I tried everything on my side to restore the amage but I couldn't  win.... My only option was to save my files and execute clean installation

My roommate just tried to update his desktop to the most recent Windows update, and now it cant boot past the initial logo screens. It will display the ASRock logo with some F-key options, spin around as if loading, then repeat in an infinite loop.

We can't even get far enough to reach Windows, hard shut down 3 times, and enter Recovery mode. Because of this, I don't know how else to fix the problem.

Right now I'm creating a new USB boot as a last resort, but we really dont want to lose all his files.
