PC won't boot after lastest Windows 10 update

You should restore / repair/ reset your computer using Media Creation Tool. You will have to cut Media creation tool on another computer if you can't do this on your existing computer.

Note - You will get the option to keep your files during reset. But it will remove third party apps including Microsoft Office which will need to be reinstalled. Default Windows 10 apps will be automatically installed. But non-defaults Windows 10 apps will need to be reinstalled.

I am stuck, my computer does not boot, as it I can not even get into BIOS.  I do not have an optical drive, I've tried to boot to a USB stick, however, as I said, I looks like it has done something to the BIOS and now I can't even reset the BIOS. I'm running an MSI 450 with a RYZEN 7 2700 16mb ram, any advice or can Microsoft foot the bill for a new MB?

I have had 8-9 instances of this problem since early Spring. I did a clean re-install 3x. Most of the time removing the power plug (or battery if a laptop) and leaving it alone for 10+ minutes seems to fix it. On re-inserting the power plug and hitting the ON button, Windows will boot and start or continue applying the updates, finally restarting normally, not in Safe Mode. No files lost, no apps removed. When removing the power plug and waiting didn't do the trick, I opened the case (with power cable out) and unplugged and re-plugged the SATA and power cables on the boot drive. Usually, this worked to enable Windows to load and get back in the saddle.

You'd think Microsoft might pay some attention to this, figure out why it happens, and fix it (in the next update, of course).

sounds not so good. I‘m not a bios guru with Lenovo. But i‘m sure the bios settings can be reset somehow and you can unbrick the pc. What helped in the past with bios settings is open the pc, remove the bios battery, wait for up to 10min or even more and reinsert the battery and try boot with f1 or f2 into the bios.

In my excitement, I've completely ruined it now! I decided to use the 'restore optimized defaults' setting in the bios (which I am sure I tried before and nothing happened), and now I can't see anything on the screen and the keyboard cannot be detected!

Looks like I have completely blown it, unless anyone knows how I can enter the bios again having used 'restore optimized defaults' settings?

Another update. I tried what you said, I connected the HDD to the PC using the SATA to USB cable with the power adapter. I did not use the recovery USB flash drive. I changed the boot sequence and BOOM! Yes, it finally booted!

I believe it started with a message like 'Attempting to repair', then restarted a couple of times (have to be patient, don't try to switch it off), then it said 'Undoing changes made to your computer...'. Then it restarted 2-3 more times and said 'Preparing Automatic Repair', followed by 'Diagnosing your PC' and then 'Attempting repairs'. Again, be patient with it. There were maybe a couple more restarts and then it displayed the 'Automatic Repair' screen.

From the 'Automatic Repair' screen, I tried 'Turn Off Your PC', 'Continue - Exit and continue to Windows 10', 'System Restore', 'Start Up Repair', and 'Uninstall Updates'. None of these options worked. So finally I decided to use 'Reset this PC' and keep my files. Basically, Windows 10 was reinstalled and all my files were available. Fantastic. Everything seemed back to normal.

I reconnected the HDD to the PC's internal SATA connection and reset the boot sequence to the original settings. When I powered on the PC, it is still stuck on that Lenovo screen! :-( ... Is it possible that some settings have changed somewhere and it is preventing the HDD from booting when connecting using the internal SATA cable? I can see the HDD in the boot sequence, so it looks like the cable is working as it is detecting the HDD, it just will not boot. It boots fine via the SATA to USB connection.

Any guidance you can provide is very much welcomed. I am almost there. Thanks again Bernd and to everyone for their help so far! :-)
