Looking at Task Manager and all the processes running it became apparent some dropbox service using a relatively small amount of resource just kept adding processes with increasing instances until the machine just maxed out (cpu, disk & memory were at 100%). Since uninstalling dropbox the machine has been behaving normally. I haven't tried reinstalling Dropbox, which I will do at some stage, but it is nice to have my machine "back". If it isn't dropbox on your machine, perhaps have a look at what other apps / services could be doing something similar. Cheers, David
New Windows 10 update making everything slow
So apparently Windows decided to automatically update itself while I was away from the PC. When I’m trying to log in, it takes ridiculously long (around 30-40 minutes). So I tried restarting, but startup is SUPER slow to the point that I’m stuck waiting for a black screen of death. Why is my PC slow after this recent update?

2020-05-01T07:53:47+00:00 First off, I want to thank you for taking the time out to email me what your experiences have been. But sorry to say I don't have DropBox.
Plus, I ended up wiping my system and reinstalled Windows Pro 10 and the updates went in as a whole, and as a result, it corrected my issue. On the final reboot my system went right in as it was doing previously to the update. My system is locked with a thumb drive key, and of coarse the key was inserted and it went straight in, instead of cycling for 30 minute just before it reached the login screen. That where my system would hang up. I am serious about it, just standing still for approx 25 - 30min, just cycling there with the working icon.
I could go to the kitchen and cook myself breakfast before it eventually sign in. So that's what I ended up doing to fix this rig of mine, it blows my mind at how often the Microsoft updates are causing just as bad of a problem if not worse as if I was hit by a virus. It literally made me mad as **** do to the fact that I had to wipe my machine.
Good luck to all of you. Also, be careful out there with this dang virus out there killing so many people, it's devastating.

2020-06-18T09:57:49+00:00 You reply was very well written, but I suspect it was marked as unhelpful because it didn't specifically address the specific issue in the post. Perhaps if you phrased it as a generic reply, it would have been taken as such and not marked down.
In general most people that reply to these issues do one of the following:
- explain how to uninstall the latest update
- post links on how to disable automatic updates
These are not helpful, unless the user is asking this specific question. In fact it is really annoying and potentially dangerous.
I found this post because I have a similar issue, and if I were to follow this it could easily make the problem worse,
I believe in my case it was a firmware update to my Surface Book, as not only does the keyboard not work for the first 30 minutes of the day, 2 usb ports key reconnecting during this time. After about 30 mins to an hour all is fine.

2020-06-18T19:15:42+00:00 I can’t do most if not all of these tips if I can’t get out the stupidly long startup menu. (I’m sill waiting for about 40 minutes).
ALSO, even if I finally get out of startup. I’m still waiting on Desktop to finish loading (I disabled all startup apps btw).
Yeah, same here.
