New Windows 10 update making everything slow

You need to try every possible method to access the Repair Mode before it even gets to the lock screen, as shown here:

Since the most common way is to shut down the PC three times by holding in the power button, try that first. If it doesn't work then try any other methods in link above you can access.

It may be necessary to create bootable media on another PC to access Advanced Startup Options or do the Clean install. You can always boot media by following the steps I give, and if not I will help you troubleshoot to get it booted one way or the other. Not once in 10 years helping thousands of people do this has anyone not been able to eventually boot media to repair, Reset or Reinstall:

To create Windows 10 Installation Media on another PC install Media Creation Tool and follow the directions here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m.... Uncheck the box for Recommended Settings to choose the exact version and bit rate for the target PC only.

If the media won't boot you may need to enter BIOS/UEFI Setup (pressing key given in chart in link above) to turn off Fast Boot or Fast Startup first.

Choose the boot device as a UEFI device if offered, on second screen choose Repair Your Computer, then Advanced Troubleshoot Options, then System Restore, or the new Uninstall Updates button. If that fails go back to Troubleshoot Options to try a Reset.

If that fails choose Install Now, then Custom Install, then at the drive selection screen delete all partitions down to Unallocated Space to get it cleanest, click Next to let it create needed partitions and start install - this makes it foolproof. Everytime I hold power button for three shutdowns, it just lags and does it a fourth time. I also cant hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE because it’ll try to go into the log-in screen and I have to wait over 5 minutes only to just get sent back in the previous lock screen. Also I can’t dual screen. 

I might honestly just get it replaced. It’s been 5 year since I had this AIO PC, HDD is failing, Windows Services are taking up too much disk, and updates are just making it worse. I already had important files backed up when I knew the HDD was acting up. Thanks for trying to help though.

This is the first you mentioned the hard drive is failing. Your post was about Windows Updates slowing Windows, but if you have a failing HDD then that should have been checked first and replaced which would have solved the problem.

HP and Dell have hardware diagnostics triggered by tapping the ESC or F12 keys respectively as you power on.

If the drive is failing, I'd replace it with an SSD which is the best Upgrade one can have - lightning fast, faster than a new higher-end PC without one - especially if you do the gold standard Clean Install in this link which compiles the best possible install which will stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given, has zero reported problems, and is better than any amount of money could buy: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Even if the drive isn't failing I'd still do the Clean install above because on most older PC's that particular Clean Install will make it as fast as a new PC which comes loaded with all the bloatware that slows it. I keep older laptops running 10 years faster than brand new ones with much better specs. As with everything in Windows 10, it's all about the install.

Pardon my language, but what a ROYAL PAIN IN THE *** Microsoft screws up our machines and then we have to fix it. Microsoft should test all these updates before releasing them or I should say forcing them down our throats. My machine loaded super fast and last night it updated and today it just hangs the in the load up screen until it gets good and ready to advance. This is ****, I'm so pissed, the last dang update did the same thing to  me and I haven't yet recovered from that one, meaning I have not full reinstalled all software into my machine only to be hit with another ******* update. Why doesn't Microsoft run these updates for a month or two, before shoving them down our throat?

The last time this ****** happened I ended up having to wipe my machine, and start all over with a clean slate. It looks like I'm going to have to wipe it again, I just ran System Recovery, which it did remove the bulk of the update, but what ever it changed maybe at the SSD level or creating containers, it did not correct it. In other words even after running recovery, it's still taking an awful long time to startup/load.

So even after running Recovery Mode, it does not fix it!!

sfc scan now, dude!    isn't that the answer for everything on here?  or the other popular one is that it's your fault man.   you are doing everything wrong.    

do what the rest of us have already done.   WIPE YOUR DRIVE AND DUMP WINDOWS 10 AND INSTALL LINUX MINT.

5 months and counting for me and i haven't had one single issue since!   the best part is coming back on this "expert" site and seeing the mounting complaints about what is the worst os of all time.  

just get rid of it dude.    linux mint is a thousand times less hassle.    do it!   your life will be so much happier!
