New Windows 10 update making everything slow

First off, thank you for sharing, yes, I agree with you, adding the M.2 SSD are awesome and FAST!! Yes, I am running a M.2 on two of my 3 machines. One has a Western Digital Black, another has the Samsung Pro version each at 500GB, my primary Editing Rig, also has an additional 23.TB of regular HD Storage, attached. My MB has the i7-4770K CPU @ 3.5GHz, with 32GB of RAM/Memory. The MB is a ASROCK, and the system is NZXT Liquid Cooled, attached with the Republic Gamers Video Card - 1060 - 6GB on board Memory. It's Supporting 4 - 24" HD Monitors. Two of the 3 Systems here are NZXT Liquid Cooled and yet with all this power in all 3 rigs, of which all 3 rigs are running an i7 CPU, Microsoft's Updates have still manage to turn my power houses into snails/turtles.

I have spent weeks looking for a fix, during the evening time, all to no avail. So that's when I decided to wipe my rigs clean, dependent upon which ones because snails as a result of the updates. Anymore, I just refuse to waist my time trying to look for a fix, I simply wipe my rig clean and before I install any software, other then the OS, I simply install every update, I mean all of them. At which point, I will load all my software back in it. At that point, I gain my super fast rig(s) back. Microsoft really need to get their act together.

If I had the extra funds, I would take every single PC I own, and get rid of them and invest in the Apple Mac Computers. I have plenty of experience on Macs and I really prefer Mac's over PC's, but for what I do and the fact that I have built every computer I have owned, minus the Laptops. It would cost me a fortune. None the less, I make do with what I own. I would be happy with PC's if Microsoft would do a better job.

Back to your point, you made an awesome investment, with the M.2 SSD. I even went SSD on one of my laptops, the other one by Razer came that way.

Hey, good luck, for the next update. I say that, because I hadn't even complete my restoration from the previous update, then got hit with another, only to have to wipe the dang machine again. This has been so frustrating for so many folks, it's a shame.

Internet wired running at 54 Mbps. Cable or broadband call it what you will.

System was slow at startup and when opening/closing apps like Excel or word Access or PP (Lets not go there)

AV - Trend Micro Maximum.

For all intentional purposes it appears that since I had the M2 SSD installed my system now literally flys.

Lets see in say 3-6 months time what effect it has.

I do have a "Virgin" copy of the install when I received my PC back together with Office AV and a couple of other programs that I tend to use.

To Date nothing has changed and I yet have to doctor my Lenovo, I will get round to that shortly and hopefully I will see similar results.

Hi John D The specs above are for my Lenovo ideapad 300.

My PC has similar specs mainly 8th Gen i7, 16Gb DDR4 2600 RAM (2x8)

I run all Samsung SSD from 120Gb up to 2Tb and recently upgraded to a 500Gb M2 SSD

Took my system to get checked out. Had a power spike knocked out all power to my home.

Thought PC had gone since it would not boot.

Power supply got hit - Was replaced all good.

Techie who worked on my PC suggested that Win 7 was out of Date to which I agreed and related my story.

He replaced my Power Supply and suggested that I use the full capability of my MB (Gigabyte Z370- HD3) by installing an SSD directly onto the M2 socket on my MB, an Samsung 860 EVO M.2 500GB, V-NAND, (2280), SATA III 6GB/s, R/W(Max). (cost me $140 AUD and $140 to install The Best $280 I ever spent). and to run the lastest WIN 10.

Since I have WIN 7 and a Copy of WIN 10 backed onto separate bootable hard drives, I save all my data onto a separate SSD removable disk, therefore I was able to risk it.

After I collected my PC and turned it on I cannot believe the speed, it literally boots up in 10 seconds flat (really) and all updates are done behind the scene and if they do become intrusive, a message pops up telling me that I can use my PC while the updates are installing.

I cannot believe the transformation to my PC , I am happy again but that does not excuse Microsoft for wanting to know how many hairs I have up my nose. I just block all the intrusive Bull***t out.

May I suggest that you give this a go if your MB supports the M2 or has an M2 Socket, or perhaps change to a MOBO that has the M2 Socket.

Yes, you can do that, but I am interested in keeping the system updated, main the security updates. I'm over spending endless hours of searching with no real solutions. So, for me it's waste of time to keep looking, I just decided it's faster for me to dump it and reinstall the OS. Because of the way Microsoft is cramming these updates down our throats is pitiful, I can't afford to shut the updates down, these systems need to be secure and I haven't the time any longer to go 2, 3 , 4 or 5 days looking for solutions. I just wipe the hard drive clean and do a fresh install and everytime I've done it, it all comes back, as long as I install the OS & Updates first.

But thank you for your post and suggestions. If you find the proper fix, with out shutting down update services, please by all means share it with the rest of us.
