New Windows 10 update making everything slow

So apparently Windows decided to automatically update itself while I was away from the PC. When I’m trying to log in, it takes ridiculously long (around 30-40 minutes). So I tried restarting, but startup is SUPER slow to the point that I’m stuck waiting for a black screen of death. Why is my PC slow after this recent update?

I have recently had to downgrade some windows 10 machines to windows 7.

There were effectively bricked, when running 10.

Looks like I'll have to get to grips with Ubuntu, for majority keeping windows 7 machine for specialist programs which I can't get on linux.

    Dear Lynne,

I'd move ALL my photos to an external source such as an external hard drive or a web based server such as Snapfish or something to protect them from losing them all together.  Photos are a precious commodity.  I've started even printing them off through Snapfish just in case my external drive, the cloud and SnapFish go belly up.  In today's world and changes being made to Social Media, Microsoft, Google etc. I'm not going to be caught without my memories!

I came to my computer this morning and it had also downloaded and was "finishing" as I went to work this morning.  Slow booting up and slow on some of my programs.  I had Microsoft365 take over my computer because it was showing that my OneDrive was full when my subscription said otherwise.  He did some stuff and then before hanging up he told me to re-start my machine.  I did that and it took 2 1/2 hours to reboot!  It's been back to the old slowness again after I got it fixed from the first time I replied.

I'm scrapping this hard drive and going brand new with a SSD with brand new download of Microsoft365 to see if that helps.  GRRRR!  Not doing it myself, paying someone to do it for me. Reminds me of Apple and their "slow down" updates that force you to purchase updated equipment...which my version of this HP is only 2 years old!

Seems to be a perpetuating problem since Windows 10 began. I to have had these many slow downs and spending hours and days to sort out their problems. I know we need security updates but why is there this constant need to change things every few months with stuff that doesn't work or isn't need. Every time I hear in my news feeds about another problem with windows updates I delay for the full 35 days. I had this currently on right now and see that there is an update but the 35 days aren't due till Jan 21, 2021. So they don't even wait the full time you have it delayed. I also heard the machine downloading on Dec 11, 2020, so I know they have pre-installed already. What I found with this was  when you went to remove the current updates that were installed  MS says it is past the 10 days and you can't uninstall the updates now. So I'm finding they are doing this more often so you can't delate the updates as easily as you could before.

I'm not computer whiz at 63 but have managed over the years to sort out my problems somehow but it seems the problems are so rampant that I can't understand and keep up with them as well now. This shouldn't be happening every time windows 10 makes an update and we have to phone for help and/or spend more money to solve a problem that shouldn't be there in the first! Can't windows just leave things bloody well alone and quite having so many stupid updates. I too am looking at alternatives. I would love to go back to windows 7.

I'm scared to update this next version to find what doesn't work now. I have paused for the moment and wrote down the three Version 1909 KB4586878, KB4592449, KB4535680 for security and the main updates listed.

I use and old program photos called the windows photo gallery 2005 and has worked but has been very slow the last 3 updates. The last update totally removed all the captions under the photos and all I see now are the pixel sizes. I have 10,000 pictures mostly ancestry stuff. I have to click on the picture to see what it is about. Do you have any idea how annoying this is now when looking at paper records showing no names????  I don't know if clearing out the computer and reinstalling photo gallery but you can't get the software for the essentials 2012 and photo gallery anymore. They removed any on the internet and you have to use a third party with no guarantees, if you can find them. So I really am hesitant to remove these programs before I did any major changes to windows 10.

Is there  a way to save these programs when you don't have the CD or DVD install discs as they were part of the original OEM? I think I tried to see about reinstalling from the disc which is for windows XP but you can't that I know of and the other one I don't have. I had managed to continue with photo gallery after switching to windows 10 from windows 7 and XP.  Is there another free or cheaper photo suite that is very similar to Photo gallery that could be a stand alone program outside of windows 10?

I am just sick and tried of Windows 10 begin in every bodies business and screwing everyday lives of people that have really know idea where to begin to try and fix the constant errors. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!

nah, they just hire shotty 3rd world devs because the CEO is an assclown.

Remember when Windows 10 was first released ? The settings menu was a hot mess of broken english, India style.

So sad.. when they rule a market, they max profit by buttf*cking the software that made them giants.. Adobe is doing it too.. all corp software seem to be doing it to themselves in some manner.

    I'm on a new system in 2021, a $2k laptop.

I own 9 computers, 8 of them are windows..and all of them have some WIndows 10 lag introduced in the last 6 months.

-- This site is garbage, there's NEVER a real answer nor real help.. just guesses from nice people or incompetent fools...

I've never read a successful thread here.

Windows 10 introduced some more **** in 2020 that causes system lag. It's feckin sad cuz they spy on us enough already.

Let me use my dam n computer without this insane lag that didn't exist until 2020!

MS needs to stop hiring 3rd world India developers as they **** everything up.
