New Windows 10 update making everything slow

I installed the Update KB4497165 yesterday and now my screen is black on my laptop... Only works if I connect a 2nd screen on the hdmi port

After trying everything I know, to include everything the Windows 10 Support guy here has suggested, nothing and I mean nothing corrected the problems. I myself did manage to get my system to revert back, but the changes that the update made deep in the rig, maybe in the Register, or where ever else it changed my system, that part wasn't reverted, the damage the update created was here to stay. I ended up having to wipe my SSD clean again. 

So for me, as a result of the last two major updates, I have had to wipe my system primary drive both times. I have learned when the updates go in prior to everything else, it runs perfectly. But Microsoft is failing in my book, when it comes to being able to install it as an update. Each time my system just doesn't function. In the prior update, it would take as long as 30 minutes before it would sign in, this most recent update, it was literally causing my system to lock up, and I could not get it out of the frozen state unless I held the power button down or unplug the machine. So now, today 06/22/2020 I'm in the process once again of reinstalling all my software. But I am also now taking a hard look at Linux Mint, I am angry about having to wipe my SSD every time Microsoft does an update. I am tired of spending 4-5 days at a time (each update) trying to get my rig to run properly.

You reply was very well written, but I suspect it was marked as unhelpful because it didn't specifically address the specific issue in the post. Perhaps if you phrased it as a generic reply, it would have been taken as such and not marked down.

In general most people that reply to these issues do one of the following:

• explain how to uninstall the latest update
• post links on how to disable automatic updates

These are not helpful, unless the user is asking this specific question. In fact it is really annoying and potentially dangerous.

I found this post because I have a similar issue, and if I were to follow this it could easily make the problem worse, 

I believe in my case it was a firmware update to my Surface Book, as not only does the keyboard not work for the first 30 minutes of the day, 2 usb ports key reconnecting during this time. After about 30 mins to an hour all is fine.

I also have the same issue on two PCs at work. Both have recently had updates installed. One is an HP desktop and the other is an Asus laptop, so on first look it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue. 

Both computers installed updates KB4497165 and KB4537572 on the 1st of March. This was about a week prior to the issue starting so it's unlikely this was the direct cause. 

My laptop has Office 2013 and the other PC is still running Office 2010, but both of them installed a bunch of updates on the 8th of March, so Sunday before I noticed the issue on my PC. The following updates were installed on my laptop: KB4022226, KB3172522, KB3039756, KB4011281, KB3114946, KB4484097, KB3039798, KB3039720, KB4464548, KB3172545, KB3178640.

The commands SFC /SCANNOW and DISM /ONLINE /CLEANUP-IMAGE /RESTOREHEALTH were literally the first thing I tried and the system is still slow. My laptop has a 4th Gen i5 with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SATA SSD. While this is happening, the performance tab on Task Manager shows the processor barely breaking a sweat at 25%, the memory about 55% full and the disk activity mostly sitting at 0% with occasional bursts of 5%. 

I'm about to try an in-place upgrade of Windows 10. I started the process yesterday and have just arrived at the "Install" button 24 hours later. 

Is anyone else suffering from this exact issue? Is there a fix for this?

Everytime I hold power button for three shutdowns, it just lags and does it a fourth time. I also cant hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE because it’ll try to go into the log-in screen and I have to wait over 5 minutes only to just get sent back in the previous lock screen. Also I can’t dual screen. 

I might honestly just get it replaced. It’s been 5 year since I had this AIO PC, HDD is failing, Windows Services are taking up too much disk, and updates are just making it worse. I already had important files backed up when I knew the HDD was acting up. Thanks for trying to help though.
