255% available (plugged in)

Yea! My problem is same as your. I don't know why, but my laptop has a problem and cannot use without charging. And... It's very fictional but I see a pop-up message when I move my pointer to to battery logo that say: 255% avalible (plugged in)

In my case it is Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and I can't open the back panel. I tried to follow the instruction from the help desk, but none work, I brought the unit to Microsoft store and they basically said the battery is dead and nothing can be done.

I seem to have the same issue, just not with the same reasons stated in the thread.

I keep hovering over the battery icon in the taskbar to see this: 255% available (plugged in).

It’s so weird. But if you kook at the battery icon, it has an X in it. Then I remembered the battery was damaged or uninstalled, so if I unplugged it, it would immediately shut down no matter what.

But, the laptop was school property anyways, and this was a bit of a while back.

You might be dealing with a disconnected or faltering battery itself. Check if the battery’s either old or outdated, below dead (needs more to charge before it can register that it’s at 0%), if there’s even one installed, or any other battery issue.

You can check the battery status by booting the computer and pressing F12 right when the boot logo shows, and be quick! A menu called “Boot Options” will show. Navigate to the Diagnostics option so that it’s highlighted. Press the Enter key and wait for the laptop/PC (Personal Computer) to do its thing.

You’ll be presented with dialogue boxes. Click “Yes” or any other button that allows you to continue.

If no dialogue boxes told you something’s off about the battery, you’re fine.

But if it stopped you partially through the process, check out the battery and seek solutions.
