255% available (plugged in)

 I cant turn on my laptop if it's not plugged in

How come is this a windows problem if windows isn't even loaded when the computer is turned off?

I think everyone is mixing different problems. I have the 255% bug on both of my laptops (different brands) for some years now and yet they both work fine without being connected to the wall. I asked a bunch of friends and their batteries are working fine too.

I'm not saying that some of you don't really have the problems you are reporting, i'm just saying that the 255% bug doesn't seem to be related.

There's a chance that version 1909 isn't related as well. If you google the subject, there are threads open here on microsoft answers since at least 2017 with people having the same battery problems (laptop shutting down when disconnected from the wall). There are also lots of people complaining about the 255% bug online and none of them (the ones i saw) are complaining that their laptops shut down when disconnected from the wall.

I'm having the same problem as well. I cant turn on my laptop if it's not plugged in, and if i unplug it after it's been turned on, it takes a minute or so before it just goes black. When the charger has been in for a bit, the charger light starts blinking on and off every .8 sec or so.

I'd love to hear if there is a fix for this, as it ruins the whole concept of it being a laptop

It is serious because I get that message and the battery is not charging.

Could it also be that the battery is not charging because it has been already over charged? I wonder!

I have the same 255% problem in my HP Pavilion 13 x360 PC. It definitly started when I have installed Windows 10 1909 update two days ago.   Tried many known tests, recepies but all in vain. HP Battery check returns "Unknown". Any help which may be forthcoming will be greately appreciated

I have the exact same problem.   See screenshot below.  My surface pro 3 dies instantly the charger is removed. See the grey, hollow battery icon in the tray in the screenshot which is empty which implies that the battery is not connected.    I can only use my surface pro plugged in which is hopeless.  

Perhaps Microsoft could confirm the death circle whereby windows (firmware?) updates to fix the battery problem will only install when the battery is charged to 25% but the battery cannot charge to 25% because a previous windows update has screwed up the firmware supporting the battery so the firmware will not install.    

Any fix for this battery problem would be greatly appreciated.
