Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - November 2019 (KB890830) -Error 0x800711c7

I got a new laptop for Christmas with Windows 10 in S Mode. I wanted the Windows 10 OS because I like working with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Word). I have a MacBook but the Online features for Office and the Mac's version of Office do not have all the features I like to use. I thought getting the laptop in S mode would be safer too. Of course, I had to start off with installing updates onto the laptop (which is fine.) But finding an update I can't download is very frustrating. It is also frustrating when I go to their "Answers" page and the only solution Microsoft provides is a solution of the user switching out of S mode, which is 1.) permanent and 2.) what the user wanted in the first place!

I hope they come out with a hotfix very soon or else I will be returning the laptop and sticking with my MacBook.

So, please, please cease suggesting this, advisors. If that's all the advice you can give us, how about re-engineering the update and rolling out a version that works instead?

You are right, the person who wrote that must not understand Windows 10 S mode.

Microsoft is probably working on a fix even though there seems to be little info on the problem.  However, the problem is not really an issue on S mode machines.  The message you'll find regarding this issue is at this link: 

• Win10-S mode is not supported, there is no added value of running MSRT on this platform. Any install failures of attempting to install the package can be safely ignored.

The error message is indeed annoying and really should not happen.  Microsoft should fix stuff like this quickly, even if it is harmless.  Users do not appreciate message that show an update failed because it makes them feel as if something is wrong.  In this particular case, when this error occurs on a S mode machine, it can be ignored (according to the above note at that Microsoft link).

Really, is telling the typical 10S customer to ignore an error message the right way to go? A mistake that's mitigated by the thought that the typical 10S customer won't be able to find that advice in the first place.
