This Windows 10 S Mode Windows Update error issue is resolved with the latest rounds of Windows Updates (as of 2/14/19).  

On my Surface Go in 10 S Mode, I've received the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - (KB890830) -Error 0x800711c7 since December 2019, and as of yesterday, after running the latest Windows Updates and rebooting, the error disappeared and the green check finally appeared.  (I'm on version 1909 and have run all updates including the cumulative ones for 1909).

You really explained this very well. I purchased a HP Windows 10 in S Mode since my other computer was Windows 7 which we know is not supported any longer :( .Good news is that I was able to purchase a HP Windows in S Mode. Thought it was a great idea since the security on the device was great, and I didn't have to worry about any viruses. But then I was updating the computer and everything was great until I got the dreaded MSRT message. At first I was upset, thinking I had a virus??? But how could that happen when my computer is in S Mode? Like many, I was concerned.

Now since reading your message here, I feel so much better!! I know now that it's a flaw, and it will not effect my computer. It runs great, and I thank you so much for being honest and sharing this message. 

So I will ignore the MSRT messages, and go on my way. I thank you so much Rob Koch!! I appreciate you so much. Thank you!

i just got this for Christmas a ideapad s145 i have tried googling this same situation and this post is the FIRST that made any sense. I dont know how to fix the alarm that goes off when this pops up..  I am scared of using my BRAND NEW COMPUTER. if anyone can help... Thank you
