Your phone companion app error : "We can't connect to your phone"

I have been getting this message since the 3rd.  I have tried the sync troubleshooting steps but they have not worked.

I was finally able to fix this by going into the Shared experience settings in Windows 10

Click the start button and type Shared experiences and then open the setting. Toggle the On switch and see if that works. Even if the on switch is already on, toggle it off and then back on again and see if that fixes it. One thing to note is that you should probably only have My devices only in the dropdown menu.

    Found something that may block connections for others. I had Hyper-V activated (installed) and later removed the feature. It left behind a bridge and some virtual adapters. Deleting them allowed me to finally connect.

    Hope this helps someone.

    In the end paid ms support resolved the issue for me.

    The solution was to reinstall windows!

    My problem was everything said it was connected and communicating but would throw up "we can't connect..." message on my PC.  Doing the steps outlined in the link below, the step for turning on the allowing to run in background features fixed it for me.
