Your phone companion app error : "We can't connect to your phone"

I have been getting this message since the 3rd.  I have tried the sync troubleshooting steps but they have not worked.

I was finally able to fix this by going into the Shared experience settings in Windows 10

Click the start button and type Shared experiences and then open the setting. Toggle the On switch and see if that works. Even if the on switch is already on, toggle it off and then back on again and see if that fixes it. One thing to note is that you should probably only have My devices only in the dropdown menu.

    I did make sure the phone app was on. My issue is , Your phone companion gets stuck at connecting at 90%

    My issue was making sure that the Your Phone app was allowed to run in the background on my PC.

    Settings > Privacy > Background Apps > Make sure Your phone app is on

    The attempted shared experiences solution did not work. This is so frustrating. Microsoft's software has always been very buggy

    Same here - microsoft has blocked some VPN providers such that shared experiences, your phone app, and other microsoft services are unavailable until you disconnect your VPN or add a split tunnel configuration.
