Wi-fi 6 AX201 adapted is experiencing driver or hardware related problems

I recently got my surface laptop 3 and today the wifi wasn't working. No networks were showing up so i ran the troubleshooter for the internet connection. This message showed up and i don't know how to fix it. "The Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz adapter is experiencing driver - or hardware- related problems. Not fixed"

Please help me solve this problem because I need to use my laptop for school.

Hi Jessica,

You wouldn't necessarily need to hotspot it, but you would need an internet connection to download. You could download the file on another computer, and transfer it to the Surface by USB drive, for example.

The file that is being downloaded is a .msi installer file, so when you open it, it should bring up a setup wizard that walks you through the installation steps, and that would handle the installation of the drivers. Once that installer is complete, it will likely ask you to restart, and then the latest drivers would be installed.

I am an independent advisor and a Microsoft user like you, and I would be happy to help you out with this.

Do you have the Intel or AMD version of the Surface Laptop 3?

To see which processor is in your device, check Settings > System > About.

Then, choose the link below that matches your processor.

On the download page that opens, select Download, and then choose the appropriate .msi file.

Select Next.

Next to the Save button, select the arrow, select Save As, and then choose your desktop as the save location.

You may wish to download and install the most recent drivers and firmware. The latest publication was today, January 30, 2020.

I have a surface book 3 with surface dock 2 and the wifi was working fine till I connected the ethernet via the surface dock and then after a couple of days the wifi just dissappeared with driver error appearing when I ran the network trouble shooter. Leaving me with no wifi when the tablet was detached from the keyboard.

I dowloaded the intel driver assistant and it offered me 3 driver updates including wifi and bluetooth (on the same card). It didn't work right away but after a couple of restarts and then detaching the tablet and restarting that on it's own the wifi icons came back and let me connect.

Then when I reattached the tablet to the keyboard I lost it again. Restarted again with both connected and it now seems pretty stable.

Seemed to be a bug with switching between ethernet and wifi in windows or intel driver for me.

Fingers crossed now...................I almost sent it back.
