Wi-fi 6 AX201 adapted is experiencing driver or hardware related problems

I recently got my surface laptop 3 and today the wifi wasn't working. No networks were showing up so i ran the troubleshooter for the internet connection. This message showed up and i don't know how to fix it. "The Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz adapter is experiencing driver - or hardware- related problems. Not fixed"

Please help me solve this problem because I need to use my laptop for school.

Hi Jessica,

You wouldn't necessarily need to hotspot it, but you would need an internet connection to download. You could download the file on another computer, and transfer it to the Surface by USB drive, for example.

The file that is being downloaded is a .msi installer file, so when you open it, it should bring up a setup wizard that walks you through the installation steps, and that would handle the installation of the drivers. Once that installer is complete, it will likely ask you to restart, and then the latest drivers would be installed.

Do you have the Intel or AMD version of the Surface Laptop 3?

To see which processor is in your device, check Settings > System > About.

Then, choose the link below that matches your processor.

On the download page that opens, select Download, and then choose the appropriate .msi file.

Select Next.

Next to the Save button, select the arrow, select Save As, and then choose your desktop as the save location.

You may wish to download and install the most recent drivers and firmware. The latest publication was today, January 30, 2020.

I have the Same Problem than Jessica, but with my Surface Pro 7

As i opened it today the wifi worked properly, but as soon as i restarted it, the problem occurred.

Quick google search for surface pro top get into BIOS (uncertain what the wifi would be under the UEFI firmware, but you may want to look it up. What I do is go into BIOS and turn off my wifi (mine is a checkbox for WLAN, I uncheck, restart, go back into BIOS, recheck, and my wifi comes back for a bit. It is not ideal.)):

Access Surface Pro BIOS
- Make sure the Surface Pro device is turned off.
- Hold the volume-up button.
- Press and release the power button.
- When the Surface logo appears, release the volume-up button.
- The Surface UEFI firmware interface screen will be displayed and you can make changes.
Also: You can also load the UEFI firmware settings menu through Windows. To do this:
1. Select Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery.
2. Under Advanced startup, select Restart Now.
3. Under Choose an option, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > UEFI Firmware Settings, and then select Restart.
