File Explorer search not working in Windows 10 1909

Ever since I updated to Windows 10 1909 the Search Box in the File Explorer is completely unuseable. It shows a text cursor but I cannot click inside the box or type any text into it. Essentially it's a text box with no "wiring". 

Any ideas how to resolve this issue? I'm having to resort to using a third-party search app just to find files in my projects.

    Karen, go to your Profile and click "Edit." Then uncheck the box "Receive Email Notifications." You will stop receiving notices of responses.

    Also on update 1909 here. This is ridiculous and embarrassing for MSFT. Can't believe it hasn't been fixed yet after 2 months.

    well like the rest of you here, I have the same issue and we have been beating our collective heads on a wall for a bit now. Well, perhaps this article helps to explain the msft lag... check it. just today

    Did you try the suggestion i posted? My Search has been working since i discovered that.

    Go to Settings, Apps, Default Apps by protocol, Choose 

    "Windows Search Protocol"

    re select Windows Explorer

    Its possible the registry got crapped on and this has fixed it.
