Ever since I updated to Windows 10 1909 the Search Box in the File Explorer is completely unuseable. It shows a text cursor but I cannot click inside the box or type any text into it. Essentially it's a text box with no "wiring".
Any ideas how to resolve this issue? I'm having to resort to using a third-party search app just to find files in my projects.

The reboot is what temporarily fixes it, although you would attain the same results from merely killing explorer.exe in task manager and then starting it again.
I found the same thing you did EconomicHitman. Using the task manager to shut down file explorer is the easiest way.
Well, the cumulative update has arrived AT LAST (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4530684/windows-10-update-kb4530684). I have installed it and tested the search capabilities. In WinExplorer now finally it seems to be working fine.
But e.g. in the (old-fashioned) Control Panel, specifically in the section of Installed Software Applications, the return after search is not working still.
Either me hitting "x" to the right from query, or hitting "←" at the Navigation Bar -- I still have below only the specific found result, and cannot return to the list of ALL available installed things.

Actually no, even in Search Field of WinExplorer doesn't work again. After a while, the search field AGAIN stops accepting characters!

If you are having problems I suggest you post in the Feedback Hub or look to see if there are others who have posted there. You can add your comments and upvote the problem.
It's not going to go away in 1909 if your system is affected. Personally I've not seen a problem other than not being able to right click and paste but that doesn't bother me as Ctrl+p still works if I ever needed that.
