Exact same problem here. I did the task manager restart Windows explorer thing a couple of days ago and the problem has not yet returned. But I'm knocking wood since I see here that it has returned for others. Not sure why a restart would be a permanent fix.
File Explorer search not working in Windows 10 1909
Ever since I updated to Windows 10 1909 the Search Box in the File Explorer is completely unuseable. It shows a text cursor but I cannot click inside the box or type any text into it. Essentially it's a text box with no "wiring".
Any ideas how to resolve this issue? I'm having to resort to using a third-party search app just to find files in my projects.
Kind regards
Byron

2019-11-27T19:49:48+00:00 Doing a google search for File Explorer search not working in Windows 10 1909 now brings up quite a few sites reporting this issue, how could you break such a basic feature of Windows is insane.
Really hope this gets patched quickly as it seems to be affecting a significant number of users.

2019-11-27T19:26:10+00:00 I have been getting this problem. Has there been any advice on best solution
No solution exists yet, AFAIK. The workaround is to Restart the File Manager process in Task Manager, then rerun it and search. But the issue will return.
