File Explorer search not working in Windows 10 1909

Ever since I updated to Windows 10 1909 the Search Box in the File Explorer is completely unuseable. It shows a text cursor but I cannot click inside the box or type any text into it. Essentially it's a text box with no "wiring". 

Any ideas how to resolve this issue? I'm having to resort to using a third-party search app just to find files in my projects.

    Hello Led,

    You are correct in that the Windows taskbar disappears when you do a restart of it in the task manager , but it does reappear almost immediately. The problem is if anything was opened in the taskbar, you lose it. At least the cursor will work again in the search bar. 

    It sure beats the hell out of restarting my system every time.

    Thanks very much Horace and for the tenforums.com tutorial. I do know how to use it. It's just the new windows update has created some problems that I've already articulated. The tutorial although generally is helpful, some of it is now irrelevant in terms of some of the function due to the change, as far as I see it. 

    Someone said something about it being rewired??? It would be nice if windows could give us a full explanation of how they've specifically changed it.

    select Quick access then click Applyand OK and see if this allows you to use the Search Box. 

    The search box still does not work, and in addition the quick access is not displayed when opening file explorer (it still shows This PC).

    You have discovered another bug :)

    Issue number 1:

    I have the same issue with cursor working and not working in the search bar. The only way I can solve it is to go to the task manager and end task Windows Explorer. That will solve it immediately but the error does occur again. Until I found out about the ending Windows Explorer via the task manager, I had to restart my system which was ridiculous.

    If I end the process via task manager Windows taskbar disappears, and I have to restart.

    After opening File Explorer try clicking on the View tab>Options>Change Folder and Search Options. Under the General tab>Open File Explorer to:, select Quick access then click Applyand OK and see if this allows you to use the Search Box. See image below, Click on, tap or activate image to enlarge it.
