File Explorer search not working in Windows 10 1909

Ever since I updated to Windows 10 1909 the Search Box in the File Explorer is completely unuseable. It shows a text cursor but I cannot click inside the box or type any text into it. Essentially it's a text box with no "wiring".

Any ideas how to resolve this issue? I'm having to resort to using a third-party search app just to find files in my projects.

Kind regards

Byron

i have  an MSI GE73 Raider RGB 8RE and win10pro

i can modify text in search box as well as cut and paste. i just discovered that the right click does not bring up a cut/copy/paste menu on mine, but it will cut/copy/paste using the standard keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+C [copy], ctrl+Y [undo], ctrl+X [cut], ctrl+v [paste]). i am used to using the keyboard to cut and paste, so it is not that big of a deal for me anyways.

Did you try the suggestion i posted? My Search has been working since i discovered that.

Go to Settings, Apps, Default Apps by protocol, Choose

    "Windows Search Protocol"

    re select Windows Explorer

Its possible the registry got crapped on and this has fixed it.

Seemed like working but after a bit the problem started again.... I think I will roll back because this is so frustrating and time wasting while working
