File Explorer search not working in Windows 10 1909

Ever since I updated to Windows 10 1909 the Search Box in the File Explorer is completely unuseable. It shows a text cursor but I cannot click inside the box or type any text into it. Essentially it's a text box with no "wiring".

Any ideas how to resolve this issue? I'm having to resort to using a third-party search app just to find files in my projects.

Kind regards

Byron

    Yes, this solution works.

    Thank you.

My father had this issue, could not click on the search box, and it resolved when I changed the display options for the desktop and colors for windows/file explorer, and has not recurred. Changed default windows mode to dark, default app mode to light, and set a custom accent color. Don't understand how they could be related, but the search started working again and it stayed fixed after a reboot.

May I ask why can I not post a question concerning all the problems I am experiencing since the last two updates in one place?

Did you try the suggestion i posted? My Search has been working since i discovered that.

Go to Settings, Apps, Default Apps by protocol, Choose

    "Windows Search Protocol"

    re select Windows Explorer

Its possible the registry got crapped on and this has fixed it.

It almost worked! I was able to enter one letter, then the search field frooze again. This is horrific from Microsoft side...

As I wrote earlier - the issue with Search function in File Explorer is already fixed within the Windows Spring 2020 update. We have to wait until May 2020, or install the update manually via https://insider.windows.com/en-us/ (only for advanced users), or use the workaround (Task Manager -> tab Details -> kill SearchUI.exe process).

If a fix is available, why can it not be made available - worst case - in the next Patch Tuesday?
