File Explorer search not working in Windows 10 1909

Ever since I updated to Windows 10 1909 the Search Box in the File Explorer is completely unuseable. It shows a text cursor but I cannot click inside the box or type any text into it. Essentially it's a text box with no "wiring".

Any ideas how to resolve this issue? I'm having to resort to using a third-party search app just to find files in my projects.

Kind regards

Byron

I have the same issue, but I first noticed it not when running file explorer stand alone, but when running SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) 18.4, when try to open an file with an SQL extension, I sometimes use the search box to find one with certain characters like "date" or "employee", so I can search for queries I have written in the past.  I was finding that I could not click into the file dialog search box and if I tried to click a second time, it would cause SSMS to abend (crash).  It was only afterwards that I noticed that stand alone file explorer was behaving the same way.

I encountered what might be a new twist on the search issue. and it's happening on my PC, which did not have any issues with the search box previously.

the latest update, which supposedly fixed the issue, did in fact add the cut and paste and so on right click menu back to the search box  but, about 50% of the time i see this instead of the cut & paste menu.

    it's very weird, right?

the old computer (as I stated previously) was running win10 PRO 1803. the new computer is running windows 10 Pro 1909 (as stated in my last post) the issues did not crop up on my moms new PC in 1909 until the data transfer took place. I am not saing the issue was caused by the data transfer software, i am saying the issue was caused by the data transfer.

my personal machine which is the same model and same specs as the one posted about, and is also running 1909, but has never had any data transferred, does not have any issues with explorer searches. the machinee i posted about that had the data transfer, also had no issues until the data transfer was performed.

the old PC was moved to win 10 pro from win 7 ultimate back in 2015  when win 10 first came out.

my mom's new PC (and mine) came with win 10 1803 and was upgraded to win 10 Pro 1909

I have also encountered this problem. I tried many things that were suggested here and still the problem persists on multiple machines. And now as the 10 days have passed for me to revert back to the previous install of Windows 10 I have to wait for Microsoft to fix it themselves. Anybody got any ideas on what to try? Thanks in advance!
