Synaptics software accidentally deleted

Following some problems with a 3 year old Acer Cloudbook I had a PC shop re install a fresh Windows 10 and delete the original version. I had previously done something to change the touchpad settings and had resolved it by installing updated drivers. I think I might have moved the drivers to a flash drive and then deleted them by accident.

The new install doesn't allow the touchpad to work properly. I have no touchpad according to device manager merely a mouse. However, I am  physically using the touchpad to navigate but it will not scroll or pinch to zoom etc. It will move the pointer and nothing else. The touchpad is therefore in existence somewhere on the laptop but the device manager doesn't have any details of it. Settings does but only allows me to change the delay time. Nothing else. It seems I have completely deleted the software.

I have tried updating the drivers for touchpad via Acer website but when competed the drives download but I get a windows error message saying this device doesn't work on my laptop. Any ides of how I can recover the driver software would be greatly appreciated.

    I'm afraid that just caused the same problem as last time It stopped any functions on the touchpad/mousepad altogether I had to do an uninstall of the synaptics software and driver update and it forced a lengthy windows update of more than an hour. I actually think the issue is something to do with where the tech guy set the settings in BIOS to basic....Only other thing I can think of trying is go into BIOS set touchpad to advanced and try and use device manager after a re start to set the synaptics software again using the tab key etc as turning on advanced touchpad settings in BIOS disables the touchpad altogether

    I’m checking a different way to follow a previous potential solution, this time via Windows update.

    Have you run Windows update to see if there’s anything for Synaptics SMB driver? Check under update history too to see if this is listed - under drivers.

    Newer drivers via Microsoft, these are the ones I used to get Synaptics listed under Touchpad within the settings.
