Synaptics software accidentally deleted

Following some problems with a 3 year old Acer Cloudbook I had a PC shop re install a fresh Windows 10 and delete the original version. I had previously done something to change the touchpad settings and had resolved it by installing updated drivers. I think I might have moved the drivers to a flash drive and then deleted them by accident.

The new install doesn't allow the touchpad to work properly. I have no touchpad according to device manager merely a mouse. However, I am  physically using the touchpad to navigate but it will not scroll or pinch to zoom etc. It will move the pointer and nothing else. The touchpad is therefore in existence somewhere on the laptop but the device manager doesn't have any details of it. Settings does but only allows me to change the delay time. Nothing else. It seems I have completely deleted the software.

I have tried updating the drivers for touchpad via Acer website but when competed the drives download but I get a windows error message saying this device doesn't work on my laptop. Any ides of how I can recover the driver software would be greatly appreciated.

    I have downloaded driver from Acer website again but device manager says it is not compatible with the device I have HID compliant device and HID compliant mouse both show as error number 45 device no there......However, when I downloaded and ran the driver from Acer it didn't crash the mouse and cursor all together when I re started it which happened previously.

    I did those scans last night the first one came up saying there were file corruptions but they had fixed them I re started and ran it again it said there were no file corruptions so something has been fixed but I'm struggling to find compatible drivers still....One error message says I need a driver for 32 bit system but that is the actual driver Acer recommended when I visited their site....I am still trying to find suitable drivers The one's from the Microsoft download link you gave me they download but device manager wont find them on my system for some reason Just keeps coming up as filetype inf.

    To install a .cab file you go to device manager & right click on the device you wish to update, choose update driver then manually search for the driver & choose the folder containing the downloaded update/.cab file & choose next, this should then install.

    I have tried a few times but for some reason device manager won't recognise the downloaded file for driver in my downloads file.. It is there but device manager won't allow me to find it....It is something called a cabinet file  apparently. Might not be the correct file but at least I have HID compliant device and HID compliant mouse in device manager now. One of them is surely the touchpad…..I will try again tomorrow. I have a feeling we might be near to some success now....Whatever files mat have been corrupted are surely fixed now

    No Idoubt he dismantled it Ok I ran that scan and it found corrupt files and fixed them apparently I hve re started the device as well but the touchpad settings aren't all there in settings still Device manager still shows nothing for touchpad but HID compliant mouse has re appeared on there Twice actually   I have updated the drivers one says it has up dated the other says best driver was already installed No mention of synaptics Perhaps I should try downloading and installing the synaptics from the web link you gave me yesterday once more
