Following some problems with a 3 year old Acer Cloudbook I had a PC shop re install a fresh Windows 10 and delete the original version. I had previously done something to change the touchpad settings and had resolved it by installing updated drivers. I think I might have moved the drivers to a flash drive and then deleted them by accident.
The new install doesn't allow the touchpad to work properly. I have no touchpad according to device manager merely a mouse. However, I am physically using the touchpad to navigate but it will not scroll or pinch to zoom etc. It will move the pointer and nothing else. The touchpad is therefore in existence somewhere on the laptop but the device manager doesn't have any details of it. Settings does but only allows me to change the delay time. Nothing else. It seems I have completely deleted the software.
I have tried updating the drivers for touchpad via Acer website but when competed the drives download but I get a windows error message saying this device doesn't work on my laptop. Any ides of how I can recover the driver software would be greatly appreciated.

As there are other drivers missing which may or may not be related to the synaptics driver & visiting the manufacturer’s website to download & install the latest drivers isn’t working then you may require a clean install of Windows with fresh drivers.
I’ll however keep looking for a solution.
One thing device manager does throw up is missing drivers for PCI device
PCI encrytption/decryption controller
PCIsimple communication controller
System DMA controller
System DMA controller
When I troubleshoot these and windows tries to fix them and update the drivers etc I re start as prompted but it doesn't work When returning to troubleshoot it says fix not applied
I don't know if this is anything to do with the touchpad issues

no because it's had a complete new installation of Windows There aren't any restore points to previous system and yes I have scanned hardware changes but to no effect. As I say somehow the synaptics touch pad has been deleted in it's entirity It simply isn't there but what puzzles me is that I am actually using the touchpad to use cursor to scroll on scroll bar at right of page Iam not using a mouse attached by USB.....So the touchpad must be there somewhere
Do you have a ‘other device’ category under device manager? If so check there for the synaptics touchpad.
