Following some problems with a 3 year old Acer Cloudbook I had a PC shop re install a fresh Windows 10 and delete the original version. I had previously done something to change the touchpad settings and had resolved it by installing updated drivers. I think I might have moved the drivers to a flash drive and then deleted them by accident.
The new install doesn't allow the touchpad to work properly. I have no touchpad according to device manager merely a mouse. However, I am physically using the touchpad to navigate but it will not scroll or pinch to zoom etc. It will move the pointer and nothing else. The touchpad is therefore in existence somewhere on the laptop but the device manager doesn't have any details of it. Settings does but only allows me to change the delay time. Nothing else. It seems I have completely deleted the software.
I have tried updating the drivers for touchpad via Acer website but when competed the drives download but I get a windows error message saying this device doesn't work on my laptop. Any ides of how I can recover the driver software would be greatly appreciated.

I have re started since installing a fresh windows 10 but haven't yer chanced re installing the software and driver for synaptics. I am going to take it back to the computer repair shop who first re installed windows for me last week. I will update you and thanks again for your time

Did you restart after installing the driver?

After a microsoft update I found the touchpad in settings had more options and I manager to troubleshoot and this led me to finding the right software in file depository. I updated the driver and the settings appeared but it warned me that updating this driver might make my device unstable I decided to continue anyway but this led to me losing all mouse touchpad cursor functions completely.
I have installed a fresh start with a completely new windows 10 and am back to square one.....At least it proved the synaptics was still on my device....I will try again to re install touchpad but tread more carefully this time
All those settings appear after updating to the Microsoft precision touchpad driver.
If you unzipped the files from that link I gave earlier & followed the video but still having problems then please post back.
It may be that the touchpad has failed but it’s more likely that it just cannot ‘see’ the correct drivers.
Unfortunately as I found out a Synaptics driver update removes the tab from the Mouse controls within control panel & it cannot be returned even if you uninstall that newer driver & reinstall an older one.
I tried these yesterday from Acer website but just says device isn't found on my computer or wasn't compatible One orthe other
