Synaptics software accidentally deleted

Following some problems with a 3 year old Acer Cloudbook I had a PC shop re install a fresh Windows 10 and delete the original version. I had previously done something to change the touchpad settings and had resolved it by installing updated drivers. I think I might have moved the drivers to a flash drive and then deleted them by accident.

The new install doesn't allow the touchpad to work properly. I have no touchpad according to device manager merely a mouse. However, I am  physically using the touchpad to navigate but it will not scroll or pinch to zoom etc. It will move the pointer and nothing else. The touchpad is therefore in existence somewhere on the laptop but the device manager doesn't have any details of it. Settings does but only allows me to change the delay time. Nothing else. It seems I have completely deleted the software.

I have tried updating the drivers for touchpad via Acer website but when competed the drives download but I get a windows error message saying this device doesn't work on my laptop. Any ides of how I can recover the driver software would be greatly appreciated.

    If you clean installed Windows then yes this will remove the original recovery partition but just running reset Windows won’t afaik.

    The Synaptics website doesn’t appear to have any drivers listed.

    There’s this site which gives a step-by-step list on installing the newer precision drivers: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-enable-preci... but we’ve already tried this but you still may wish to view the site.

    You can retry removing the drivers & choose to delete them from the system then following the tutorial via the link to install the newer drivers:

    Windows + X --> Device Manager --> Mice and other Pointing Devices --> Synaptics SMBus Clickpad --> Uninstall device, choose to delete the driver too & restart.

    Unfortunately if this doesn't work then I'm out of suggestions.

    Well I took it back to him but no joy. He says that as I re installed windows 10 and apparently I deleted the factory or recovery partition ( somehow) the original software and drivers are no longer there. He did manage to download the drivers but he's pretty sure the synaptics touchpad software has been erased. However, he went into BIOS and changed the touchpad settings to advanced. This however, seemed to disable the touchpad completely and couldn't even use it for pointer/cursoror even as a basic mouse. This was the case before I re installed windows 10 again myself over the weekend. He set the touchpad in BIOS to basic setting which once again allows me to use the touchpad as a basic mouse/touchpad except that I cannot zoom by pinch motion nor scroll except by using the scroll keys or scrolling by tapping the cursor on scroll bar to the left.Perhaps the only other solution is to ask Acer to send me a link to restore the software or maybe synaptics themselves. Other than that I might have to buy a plug in USB mouse
