Local network problems with 1903

I have updated 3 of my 4 computers to 1903, now none of them can see each other in the explorer network section, but each of them can see the NAS drive on the network. I have checked the network sharing settings and they are all set as make this computer discoverable. Oddly the JRiver media centre servers show up in windows explorer, but the computers which they are on do not appear. Any suggestions?

I think I may have finally resolved the issue.  Took some time, but finally have positive results... Let's see if this works for y'all.

First:  Make sure you have the correct services running.  Right click the start menu, click run and type in "services.msc"  Make sure all of the following services are set on automatic (delay start).  Note, if your system is fast enough, you may not have to put it on delay start.  I only did that not to bog down the boot time.

     DHCP Client

     Function Discovery Provider Host

     Function Discovery Resource Publication

     SSDP Discovery

     UPnP Device Host

Second: Make sure you have the correct Windows components running.  Open settings, click on Apps, and then in the upper right hand corner, you will find Programs and Features.  Now, on the upper left hand side of this new window, you will see Turn Windows Features On or Off, click that.  Make sure SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support and SMB Direct are both fully checked (not the black box, but a check mark.)  I also have Work Folders Client checked, but not sure if that will affect it.

Third:  Make sure you have Enable Remote Desktop enabled... even if you do not plan on accessing your computer remotely.  Always remember, if you don't have a password on your account, you can't access the computer remotely anyway.  This is found under Settings, then System, and finally the last choice on the bottom left.

Fourth and Final Step:  Make sure you are on a private network.  Click on the network icon on the toolbar, and select Network and Internet Settings.  If under your connection device, it says public, click on either the Ethernet or WiFi link, and change it to Private.

Now, reboot the computer, and see if this works.

I have been trying to find a solution to this since May.  Please let me know if this helps.  If not, I will keep trying.  Someone has to work the bugs out.

Why thank you.  I have been trying to get the world out, but we have limited resources here.  I am glad this is helping people though.

I agree.  But, Linux has it's share of problems as well.  I work with quite a few flavors of Linux, and between not being too user friendly, requiring passwords for every action, and networking issues of their own, they are still not a true viable alternative to the average consumer.

Gone is the Linux of old.  Now, most popular distros come with whole chunks of software that bog down systems almost as much as Windows.

And don't even get me started on cloud computing.  With so many hacks in the news, it goes to show the level of computer knowledge the general public has about the issue, that they even still use it.  But, you are right, MS is trying to push hard for that.

Don't forget, the May update was actually supposed to be the March update... and I can confirm that the new version that is created by the 1903 Media Creation Tool is different than the one released in May.  They are a completely different size.  I compared them both.

Perhaps you should publish this matter widely and get it on the media. That is the real news, as many people have been tearing their hair out over this.

I was an **** to Microsoft on the phone yesterday.  By that I mean that I was SCREAMING at the guy I was speaking with to escalate this to their 1903 team immediately.  He told me what his internal escalation options were and said he would escalate to the 1903 team immediately.  He seemed to be telling me the truth (he took my contact info in case the 1903 development team needed to contact me, which was a good sign).  In case you haven't noticed yet, there was another update to 1903 this morning.  I just finished testing this new update and the problem still exists.  I figured I would give Microsoft a week to fix this problem then call them again if it wasn't fixed.  However, I like your idea about getting this to the media if they fail to correct the issue quickly.  Pushing a new operating system upgrade on end users every 18 months, when everyone knows that it will be buggy and unreliable, is beyond irresponsible and arrogant, in my opinion.  I've been dealing with Microsoft for 30 years and I HATE how they treat their customers.
