I can not get 5.1 Surround Sound to play for my computer with any audio player; i.e. DVD/CD optical drive, Pandora, etc. but when I run an audio test using the device manager it tests perfectly. I have heard that there might be a compatibility issue with 5.1/7.1 Surround Sound and Windows 10.
Please let me know if anybody has had this problem and what the solution is.

Any updates to this? I just hooked a sound system to my pc. When I play audio the sub and everything works but when I go into the prompt to test the speakers it is only recognizing the two front and two rear speakers and will not let me test the sub or center speaker
The problem seems to be WIN10 and today's new browser's Edge, Firefox or Chrome not being to output 5:1 properly. My 5:1 is Realtek. Even the new drivers did not work. I was able to get the test sounds to play but not the music fronm the web, in my case Radio Paradise. I could get surround sound from Media player or VLC.
My solution was to install I.E 11 and the legacy player from Radio Paradise. I could also listen to YouTube music in 5:1. I retested Edge, Firefox and Chrome, with Radio Paradise and found that I could get RP to play with the Firefox browser in 5:1.
So I have 3 ways to listen to 5:1. Firefox, I.E11 and I can also get surround sound by opening the URL in Media Player.
I am using Firefox at this time as I get the latest player with all the bells and whistles.
I tried this but I could not select the Surround 5.1 option and the option was a bit faded
I have a similar problem with Skype.
Both Microsoft and Realtek/Asus MB audio drivers work in 5.1 analog sound but Skype does not. I can toggle back and forth between stereo and 5.1. All the other apps (including Edge) seem to work fine when 5.1 is selected for output to speakers (RCA /analog) but Skype does not. When I set the speakers to Stereo, Skype works as it should.
I should mention that I have not actually tested an audio out put from Edge or VLC or others that might ouptut 5.1 sound but the apps do a find job of putting out audio. Skype's problem is quite apparent as there is no sound output, 0.0 channels.
You don't say what output you are using, digital or analog. I am looking for another person who uses analog 5.1 sound who has the same problem with Skype.
It took me awhile to find the mmsys.cpl in Windows 10 that is used to manage speakers. So I was using Stereo probably since the upgrade from Win 8.1 to 10. I found mmsys.cpl during my quest for 5.1 sound and tests of the drivers.
