Issues with 5.1 Surround Sound with Windows 10

I like you have compiled hours of reading and trying multiple suggestions, nothing that actually worked though! There are countless "do gooders" offering mindless solutions to misunderstood problems that sometimes I'll actually read to the end of their solutions just for entertainment! I really am astonished to think of these same people reading through a ballot initiative and expecting them to vote correctly? When I say "God help us", I really do mean it!

The most recent two people actually said the test worked fine, it was just that streaming and watching videos didn't, which is what I was commenting on. 

If it works for 'anyone' then the underlying O/S obviously 'can' work if the application writers (ASUS in your case) can code.

Also, I find it amusing that if the ASUS written software install process doesn't work, you blame windows. The cartoon? Again, ASUS. 

When I go onto Discord, sometimes I see a cartoon of 'wumpus doesn't want to play'. Bill Gates must have been personally responsible for that travesty too then. 

If you mention a specific about Windows, then fine, then we can discuss it. But mindless ranting and a lot of adjectives don't really add much.

So in your case, the ASUS install obviously has a problem. However, my 5.1 problem turned out to be a Diamond Multimedia driver. They updated it, and then WHAM I got 5.1 - just not from Netflix. And, the driver actually came from Microsoft. They got really tired of people complaining about something they didn't do, so they fixed the other guys problem.

By the way - Oracle required us to reboot Linux servers (Oracle Linux at that) up to three times daily because "Java just naturally leaks memory." and "Of course Linux won't recover it." This was with two Senior Vice Presidents and three senior developers on the call. As the implementation partner they made it our fault as to not rebooting often enough. 

So what about Bezos only sending 2 channels? That one slipped off your radar?

Your so far off the original subject matter, that I'll just put the brakes on here. I'll summarize with this one statement. Windows 10 is a conglomerate of disparate subroutines that do not do the job! Windows 7 was the crowning glory of the Windows family. Windows 10? Do an opinion search on the net and try to find many glowing reviews from  knowledgeable developers. Subject ends here for me. For the matter of Windows unable to provide workable solutions for 5.1 Surround Sound problems…  good luck with that…  ツ

I replied to two people with an exact, targeted response/solution for their problem, all you do is complain and spout vague, weasel words, refuse to discuss any of the points brought up, and I'm the one that's off base?

Use Linux, or is it that Windows, however much you hate it, must be better? Think about that, or switch.

I realize I may not be the end all to knowledge on how all this works. I realize some or most things are streamed in 2 channel format.  I accept that. When something advertises 5.1 channel output I expect it. If I download a movie or some music I pay for....I expect it to play in 5.1.   It doesn't.  My test works fine. DVD's work fine. Music downloaded even in 5.1 format doesn't no matter the app I use to play it. These same items DID play in 5.1 with Windows 7.   The driver would also emulate 5.1 (you could click a box to do so)   I just wish Windows 10 would. It doesn't.  You would think they would get better....not worse with multi media
