Issues with 5.1 Surround Sound with Windows 10

If the speaker test works, but you go to play 5.1 from Netflix or Amazon - this is not Microsoft's problem.

They should, however, put IMMENSE pressure on those two idiots.

My 5.1 works FINE with my DVD player program. All 5 channels (and the 1kw subwoofer)

Every time I try to watch a Netflix movie, that movie only outputs stereo.

Netflix and Amazon seem to care less. 

I am SO frustrated by this. I have a very expensive projector setup and have no intention of watching media on an Android device that sits in my lap.

I have trawled through so many forums (including this one) in an effort to find a fix for running 5.1 sound under Windows 10.  I have tried every one and I can say that  none of them make any difference. Stero is the only option.

I note that one forum contributor is frustrated by an apparent lack of ownership of the problem and commitment to finding a solution. I also feel the same.

All I can prove is that the speaker test works every timeon all speakers.

For the record I am running the latest version of Windows 10 Home 64 bit, a Z490 Aorus MB with an I9 processor.

Can someone from Microsoft please advise what is being done about this issue which I am sure cannot be that difficult for a company that designs and manufactures OS used all over the world!

Frustrated is an understatemt!

True as an IT director on both the public and private side we always have issues with MS software.. they do not test well causing the end user to do it for them... even when told they have a problem that refuse to spend much resource to fix it.

Net they are like most companies driven by CEO comp and cutting corners to drive up the stock price. They have also off- shored most of their tech staff where the analysts and programmers move from company to company. Also that resource is mostly script driven... so if it's not on the script... you get the picture.

I can not get 5.1 Surround Sound to play for my computer with any audio player; i.e. DVD/CD optical drive, Pandora, etc. but when I run an audio test using the device manager it tests perfectly.  I have heard that there might be a compatibility issue with 5.1/7.1 Surround Sound and Windows 10.

Please let me know if anybody has had this problem and what the solution is.

"Here it is September 2020 and MS, Windoes 10 STILL DOES NOT SUPPORT 5.1 SURROUND SOUND! I'm looking at posts from June 2015 stating the same problems, nice going Microsoft, you should be fired!
