Host Process For Windows Taskhostw.exe Stopped Working: Event ID 1000

Anonymous
2019-06-18T23:33:45+00:00

I noticed upon checking my Event Log Applications and my Reliability Monitor I have been getting this critical error about every 2 to 3 days now on my HP Omen i7 -16 GB Mem - Nvidia GEForce GTX 1070 on Win10 Home 64 bit and this did not start happening until I updated to v1903 on May 30^th^ . My build is 18362.239. Could someone please advise me as how to resolve this or MS deploy a fix for this. It appears I am not the only one getting these. I have reported this through the Feedback Hub. I have run all three DISMs, SFC, Malwarebytes, Norton and I turned on Windows  Defender long enough for a quick scan and no problems seen. It appears this is a scheduled task that keeps failing instead of running to completion.

Seems to have at least solved the Defender problem so thanks for that :-). Find it peculiar though since I ran them all 3 June and everything came back clean that day. But! I'm far from an expert in this field so I too rely on those with more expertise.

You state there is a new feature in Defender. Looks the same to me though so can you specify what new feature is there?

Mine came back clean when I first discovered the 'Host' critical error, too. I've no idea why a fair few of us have discovered the 'corruption' of some Defender files - but I was reading a few articles that suggested there were problems with 1903 and causing this error.

We found 'Host' cropped up days after 1903 - and our Windows Defender problem has, too. It probably won't resolve the main problem (as a poster suggested) but a few days should tell us.

The new feature in 1903 is 'Tamper Protection' (search for it in the search window in 'Settings' - Windows Key + I). When 1903 first installed, we got the dreaded yellow triangle which needed addressing in the two laptops that have the Host problem but *not* in the one that doesn't have it.

    Hello Camilla74 and Daknut,

Sorry for the late reply. I wanted to let you know that yesterday I noticed my system got a little lagging at times so I check my task manager and saw the Modules Installer using 100 % of my Disk and after a few minutes it calmed down. I checked my updates in settings and nothing installed and I checked event viewer and reliability monitor and nothing seen installed. Just by chance and a spur of the moment thought I ran SFC and noticed that it was taking much longer time to complete than it normally did. When it finished it found integrity violations and said it fixed some but could not fix all of them. Well my heart just sank as I knew there was nothing different, I have been doing nor have I been to any website that I normally do and did not open any email from anyone I did not know and I had not installed any Apps or programs.  I looked into the SFC log and found the same thing you guys found concerning Windows Defender and there was a bunch of them. I thought what the **** as I do not even have Windows Defender turned as I use Norton Premium. So, I ran all three DISMS and when DISM with the Restore Health Option finished it said integrity violations can be repaired. I ran SFC again which evidently repaired all the integrity violations as the ones I saw in the log were now gone and the log was clean. I restarted my computer and when it settled in, I ran SFC again and it ran quickly with no violations. I have not seen any taskhost errors…..yet but with the schedule of failures I should see one today or tonight sometime. If I do not see any then evidently what we all have experienced is a fix. If that is the case then why didn’t MS inform everyone about this. Anyways since the encounter with the integrity violations and the fix of them my computer has been running very smoothly and screen turnover have been quick and my Apps open as soon as I click on them. I do not use quick boot but my boot time is noticeably quicker. The MS App store now opens mush faster with no spinning balls.

I truly thank Camilla74 and Daknut for their diligence and input on this problem. I hope that the repairs we made has solved this aggravating taskhostw.exe error. Let’s all continue to keep in close contact about this and let each other know if we see the error.

    Respectfully,

    Don

    Hello again Daknut!

    Ran all these:

    •- DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

    •- DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

    •- DISM.exe /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

    •- sfc /scannow

Seems to have at least solved the Defender problem so thanks for that :-). Find it peculiar though since I ran them all 3 June and everything came back clean that day. But! I'm far from an expert in this field so I too rely on those with more expertise.

    Hi Camilla,

Well, just got another 'Host' critical error. Rats!

You guys ran a fuller clean up than me so I'll wait to see if you get success and then I'll follow you.
