Bluetooth Headset cannot be used as both headphones and speakers

I have a bluetooth headset that does not allow me to use it as both a microphone and a headset.

I have determined that audio will play through the Bluetooth headset as long as the recording device is set to Conexant ISST Audio.  If I set the recording device to BHS-530 Hands-Free then no sound will play through either BHS-530 Playback device.

I can get audio to play while the BHS-530 Handsfree is setup as the Recording device but not while it is actively listening.  As an example my BHS-530 Stereo is selected for both my default audio and default communication device.  I start playing a YouTube video and audio works with the Playback menu is up in the Sound dialog (first screenshot), as soon as I select the recording menu (second screenshot) the audio stops.  If I switch the recording device back to Conexant ISST Audio the youtube video will continue to send sound regardless of which menu I am on.

What do I need to set so that I can use the headset for both audio and microphone (Microsoft Teams Calls)

The headset comes up as two separate devices once it connects to windows:

Playback Device

Type: Headset

Name: BHS-530 Hands-Free

and

Type: Headphones

Name: BHS-530 Stereo

Recording Device

Type: Headset

Name: BHS-530 Hands-Free

Type: Internal Microphone

Name: Conexant ISST Audio

(this is my laptop's internal mic)

    I find solution maybe for some of you. 

    1. This only works when you have additional cable to you headphones.
    2. Connect your headphones via audio cable to your audio input. Use this connection to hear audio by using realtek driver.
    3. Next connect your headphones second times via bluetooth, use this connection as mic via free-hands function.

    I have Marshall MID bluetooth headphones and for me its working perfectly fine in games and other windows apps.

    I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet but at least for me on this headset I noticed it cannot be in headset and headphones mode at the same time so in order to get mic and audio to work at the same time you have to have selected headset mode as both the audio and communication device on both playback and recording tab, now due to this being handsfree mode for calls the normal audio quality is far lower so that I have no workaround for. Sorry if this was already explained but that is the workaround if you really need it.

    I have the same problem with windows 10. My AirPods used to work fine (both headsets and mic selected) however recently if the Airpods are selected as input then I am unable to hear sound in the Airpods. This issue is only present using Bluetooth headsets and not wired headsets. I have tried another set of headsets and still have the same problem. I have tried these headsets on my laptop and I have the same problem. I wonder if there has been a windows update recently that has created this issue.  I have paid a lot of money for my headsets and now I am unable to use both mic and headsets at the same time. Would love to have Microsoft fix this issue.

    Today i recived

    Mpow BH456 Bluetooth 5.0 Wireless USB Adapter

    • 10.63$ order via Aliexpress.

    Tested with 2 bluetooth headsets via Microsoft Teams Test Call.

    • XG‑17 TWS Bluetooth 5.0
    • Philips SHB8750NC (based on specyfication 4.0BT)

    On both mice works correctly.

    Those headsets didint work with my lenovo X1 laptop and my Dell laptop where i have 4.0 BT miniPCI card.

    Dongle contains small CD with realtek drivers... and I install those driver (device manager report now: Realtek Bluetooth 5.0 Adapter).

    Without those drivers -adapter was discovered as generic USB BTAdapter... but it was not able to find any BT device.

    I wish Windows wasn't so stupid. My iPhone works great and easily switches between listening to music and making calls. Windows with Skype sometimes works perfectly - I can listen to music and when I take a Skype call the music is ducked under the call but still audible, just not intrusive.

    The problem I have is any headset - Jabra, Bose both tested - sound great on Windows until you use it in communications mode. After that it stays stuck in this mode with crappy mono tinny audio until the next reboot. **** Microsoft? Why do this at all? Why not just duck the other audio signals? And why force the audio into crappy tinny mono - these days Zoom calls (sorry Teams) have great audio and can even have stereo audio. At least make this a "feature" I can disable.

    Maybe the answer is to have two drivers - one for the mic and one for the headphone - so that Windows doesn't recognize it as a comms device.
