I have a bluetooth headset that does not allow me to use it as both a microphone and a headset.
I have determined that audio will play through the Bluetooth headset as long as the recording device is set to Conexant ISST Audio. If I set the recording device to BHS-530 Hands-Free then no sound will play through either BHS-530 Playback device.
I can get audio to play while the BHS-530 Handsfree is setup as the Recording device but not while it is actively listening. As an example my BHS-530 Stereo is selected for both my default audio and default communication device. I start playing a YouTube video and audio works with the Playback menu is up in the Sound dialog (first screenshot), as soon as I select the recording menu (second screenshot) the audio stops. If I switch the recording device back to Conexant ISST Audio the youtube video will continue to send sound regardless of which menu I am on.
What do I need to set so that I can use the headset for both audio and microphone (Microsoft Teams Calls)
The headset comes up as two separate devices once it connects to windows:
Playback Device
Type: Headset
Name: BHS-530 Hands-Free
and
Type: Headphones
Name: BHS-530 Stereo
Recording Device
Type: Headset
Name: BHS-530 Hands-Free
Type: Internal Microphone
Name: Conexant ISST Audio

Hi, I had the same problem with Sony wh-ch510 headphones. I could solve it by installing the drivers that windows 7 uses. Drivers csr plc 5.0.14 link drivers
The driver that makes the microphone work is (mono audio) and it is the driver that costs a bit to install. In my case I had to install, uninstall and restart the computer several times. Try this procedure on multiple computers and it works.
We're experiencing same technical difficulties on several bluetooth headsets, My Logitech H600 worked perfectly fine until a few weeks ago.
Windows 10.1909.2020-07 cumulative patches/updates have been deployed by IT on July 21st on my computer and it kind of looks like it fits the time it stopped working properly for most of us.
KB4565483, KB4565554 and KB4565633 (.Net framework) were among the items installed.
I had Windows 10.2004 pending in my Software Center.
I'm applying that upgrade and we'll see what happens.
But this issue has got me buying bluetooth dongles thinking they were flawed or missing some features.
Only to realize now, that it's been a Windows Issue all along. OR that it seems to be.
I can confirm it does the same with Google Hangouts, Discord or any other communication software that uses the PC's microphone device.
I even had some issues with my Turtle Beach PX22, which is wired by the way (1xUSB, 1xAudio), where I couldn't use the usb microphone and speakers in hangout while having game sounds going through the audio jack. Which worked perfectly well before.
I got it to work again but only after I installed Realtek sound manager and have it manage the audio I/O instead of Windows.
Microsoft please address this issue asap

This seems such a key connectivity issue that I cannot believe Windows have not sorted it out.
I like many other commentators have spent hours researching this, fiddling with various settings, installing, uninstalling, and it turns out it's a capability issue I can do nothing about.
I have an MPOW bluetooth headset and even by playing around with the selection of 'hands-free' and 'stereo' (not stereo) I could not get the headset to work with both sound and microphone at the same time. It was either one or the other. This is inline with one of the original posters frustrations.
Fortunately, though I also have some Soundcore bluetooth earbuds and they will play audio while allowing use of the microphone. This is via the poor (single channel / mono ?) audio, by disabling stereo playback, while at the same time allowing use of the microphone. Again, the MPOW would not allow this.
I only wanted to use this for voice audio so I am hoping the mono audio will not be an issue, but, this should really be fixed... in this day and age!

I don't know if Windows can use both at the same time because it is maybe a single-mode option by the device (hands-free [mic + (poor) headset] or Stereo [hq headset]. I think it is that because when I listen music on my Android phone, the sound is cristal and then I have a grrr-interrupting call I ear a cut and quality is very lower even on my ringtone ! (But alaway better then hands-free on Windows. Regarding your link, it is thank to the aptX surely.)
If use of "Stereo" and "hands-free" (for mic) modes in the same time in impossible, the last good thing to do for Windows is to have a good quality in hands-free mode (so with aptX) (for example, my work's device is 16b/16kHz in hands-free and 16b/44kHz in Stereo mode). Hope it will come fast.
Windows developers, please make this happen!
Maybe an other think is to develop an alternative driver?
