Bluetooth Headset cannot be used as both headphones and speakers

I have a bluetooth headset that does not allow me to use it as both a microphone and a headset.

I have determined that audio will play through the Bluetooth headset as long as the recording device is set to Conexant ISST Audio.  If I set the recording device to BHS-530 Hands-Free then no sound will play through either BHS-530 Playback device.

I can get audio to play while the BHS-530 Handsfree is setup as the Recording device but not while it is actively listening.  As an example my BHS-530 Stereo is selected for both my default audio and default communication device.  I start playing a YouTube video and audio works with the Playback menu is up in the Sound dialog (first screenshot), as soon as I select the recording menu (second screenshot) the audio stops.  If I switch the recording device back to Conexant ISST Audio the youtube video will continue to send sound regardless of which menu I am on.

What do I need to set so that I can use the headset for both audio and microphone (Microsoft Teams Calls)

The headset comes up as two separate devices once it connects to windows:

Playback Device

Type: Headset

Name: BHS-530 Hands-Free

and

Type: Headphones

Name: BHS-530 Stereo

Recording Device

Type: Headset

Name: BHS-530 Hands-Free

Type: Internal Microphone

Name: Conexant ISST Audio

(this is my laptop's internal mic)

hello! i found a theoretical fix, if you could turn your stereo speakers into 1 channel mode and have them playing on 16 bit and on 44100 hz, then you could solve the problem, kinda. but the problem is that whenever I choose that option, it says something like:

option not supported for device, maybe some on you have a headset that could support this?

this is what I know, I have been trying to fix these for so long now lol.

I found this reddit thread that has a lengthy explanation to the issue.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/sony/comments/fqf71z/wh1000xm3\_can\_only\_use\_stereo\_or\_handsfree\_but/

At the end, there is no solution for this, it's one or the other, but not both at the same time.

I have learnt to live with this, an so far is bearable.

My default audio playback is set to the "stereo" device of my Bluetooth headset. So I can listen content in all of its splendor/fidelity.

My default communications device for both playback and recording is set to the "hands free" device of my Bluetooth headset.

I know that if I enter a Teams/Meet/Zoom, the playback of the "stereo" device will stop, so If I need to hear audio from other apps simultaneously while in a Teams/Meet/Zoom, I need to set the default audio playback device to the "hands free" device. Although the audio quality will be lowered, it is acceptable for remote collaboration.

    Hope this helps.

Well, I can help you now. A user has helped me with this issue.

Plug in your headset and go to Control Panel > Realtek HD Audio Managerand when the pop-up of HD Audio Manager opens up, right-click on any of the buttons on the right under any of the headings Back Panel and Front Panel which are not greyed out. Click Connector Retasking... in the right-click menu. In the next pop-up, select Headset under the question Which device did you plug in? and click OK. Now try hearing any music or anything else, or try a test call in Teams (on the search bar in Teams on top, type /testcall and hit Enter. This opens a test call where you can test your headset).

    Hope this helps.
