Bluetooth Headset cannot be used as both headphones and speakers

I seriously agree with you sir, i have had this issue for a long time. Even now I have not solved this issue, and i was starting to think it was my headsets problem after all, until I saw you write a complaint that almost exactly matched my problem too!

I tried to disable handsfree, (I use boat Rockerz 400) and just use stereo with handsfree microphone. Just like you, it did not work. If by any chance you manage to fix this issue, please do post it here...I really am tired of using my laptops microphone. 

Right now, It has gotten worse, When I try to use my headphones mic with handsfree audio(I decided I should put up with sucky audio), and it doesn't work at all.....

We're in 2021 with almost 500 users that bothered to do a research and reach this forum/thread while the Bluetooth products are blamed, and thousands of other people complain as more and more people are switching to wireless devices. The issue is still here since over a decade. My wild guess would be that the problem is within the "Advanced" Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP).

My wife just bought Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition headset, and as soon as she connects to discord or any other communication app on her laptop (MSI GP65), the sound quality drops to garbage. There's no cord, so it means no work around it without getting a separate mic (which loses the point of buying a good headset with a mic). We figured out that the "hands free" is the problem, and tried everything to make the stereo sound work with the "hands free" mic, but no luck.

So I'm just gonna complain over here after reading this thread and trying all the methods that "could" be a solution, and wait for an answer.

Just the thought that a $100+ headset that you bought have a $15 sounds quality when you want to communicate with other people and you can't get to use the whole value of the headset because of this kind of problem, is just absurd. Hope this gets more attention, blow up the internet, and will get fixed. 

For now we're probably gonna stick with the stereo sound, and laptop mic until Microsoft will address it. 

As many explained before me, to do that just to to Control Panel > Sound > Disable the "hands-free" devices in the Playback and Recording, and set the non-hands-free device (stereo for us) as default for just set it active in the application/software.  In the communication app, use the other microphone (laptop's mic in our case). Or you can disable the "hands free"/"telephony" option all along inside the device properties. Doing that will disable your headset's mic, but you'll have the original sound quality of the product.

I have a bluetooth headset that does not allow me to use it as both a microphone and a headset.

I have determined that audio will play through the Bluetooth headset as long as the recording device is set to Conexant ISST Audio.  If I set the recording device to BHS-530 Hands-Free then no sound will play through either BHS-530 Playback device.

I can get audio to play while the BHS-530 Handsfree is setup as the Recording device but not while it is actively listening.  As an example my BHS-530 Stereo is selected for both my default audio and default communication device.  I start playing a YouTube video and audio works with the Playback menu is up in the Sound dialog (first screenshot), as soon as I select the recording menu (second screenshot) the audio stops.  If I switch the recording device back to Conexant ISST Audio the youtube video will continue to send sound regardless of which menu I am on.

What do I need to set so that I can use the headset for both audio and microphone (Microsoft Teams Calls)

The headset comes up as two separate devices once it connects to windows:

Playback Device

Type: Headset

Name: BHS-530 Hands-Free

and

Type: Headphones

Name: BHS-530 Stereo

Recording Device

Type: Headset

Name: BHS-530 Hands-Free

Type: Internal Microphone

Name: Conexant ISST Audio

This is to do with how blue tooth headphones are made.

Bluetooth headphones that includes are microphone built in have two types of profiles.

One is stereo(BHS-530 Stereo) which is the good quality audio playback device on your blue tooth headphone, (this allows you to listen to music or watch music with nice quality sound).

The second profile is the communication / voice call profile. In order for the microphone to properly function the only way to use microphone install on the headphone and speaker on the headphone is to use a lower quality play back device ( In this case BHS-530 Hands-Free ). There for if you want to use the microphone install ( Under recording tab BHS-530 Hands Free ) you have to use the lower quality playback device ( Under Playback tab, BHS-530 Hands Free ). 

As far as I know there's no permanent work around for this problem unless you get an external microphone and set external microphone as default communication device and then set BHS-530 Stereo as Default Device  OR   Get a really super high end Bluetooth headphone which will allow you to use stereo and microphone at the same time.

P.S. Although to be honest the Hands free playback device isnt terrible where you cant hear anything but you can tell that the quality is not something you want to hear for over an hour because its just painful to hear over long periods of time 

Edit 1: There could be some third party software to unlock / solve this issue but that just makes things complicated and its going to be another long story on how to set up and etc

Hey, well, it's my first time, telling solution, so don't mind my broken English!
I have the same problem with BoAt Rockerz 450, i resolved it but temporary, like I have to do it again and again, I shut down my PC.

A) Well, go to sound by->
A1) Go to the 'Settings', then go to 'System', then select 'Sound'.
OR

A2) On taskbar, Right-Click Volume Icon, then select 'Open Sound Settings'.

B) Now, choose 'Headphones' on Output Device, and 'Headset' on Input Device.

Now, you can't hear anything, but your mic will be working.

C)After that, Go to 'Settings' Again(Refer A1 or A2)
C1) Click on 'Privacy', then Go to 'Microphone'(which is present in 'App permission' Section)
C2) Click on 'Change' Button(which is below 'Microphone access for this device is on')
C3) A small Pop-Up will appear above that button, on that Pop-Up, make it 'Off', and then make it 'On' again.

Now, your headphone's both things, are working(audio and microphone).

#But there is a problem, while you use microphone, you will stop listening audio, and when you stop using it, you can listen audio again, that is a or issue, but i don't have any other solution right now!#

1 Upair

2 Disabled Bluetooth LE Enumerator

3 Paried again

4 Setting all tinput/output audio devices exclusive mode: Off

and that's it!!!!

it doesn't work.

The headset was created by W10... 

if I use Voice recorder, default W10 app, the headset mic works fine.

 since is not doing th two functions at time, mic and playback...

but with call software, like Zoom, MS TEAMS, Meetings etc, W10 gets crazy and stop the playback and the mic functions
